Provide three suggestions of how families and the community can support the early development of young children. Families and communities can offer child opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and school events to further build connections and provide helpful resources (Jones, 2023). Community members and organizations should collaborate and support policies that are created to ensure children have the skills necessary to learn (Early Learning - the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, 2023). Opportunities should arise where information, training, and gathering spaces are provided for families and friends to expand the benefits of their interactions and connections with children in their care (Starting Smart and Strong - the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, 2019). Children and families should have access to quality health care and partake in developmental screenings routinely to ensure children are growing healthy, confident, and ready to learn (Starting Smart and Strong - the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, 2019). Caregivers and families should relate to the appropriate health care provider who can employ necessary early interventions the child may need to succeed (Starting Smart and Strong - the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, 2019). A missed milestone could be an indication of an underlying issue. Partaking in screening tools completed by trained specialists could identify developmental delays and begin the process of receiving aids (Child Development Basics | CDC, 2023). Additionally, families can and should model the use of learning strategies, explicit statements, and behaviors. Being intentional about the environment’s children spend their time in and exposing them to situations where positive behaviors are emphasized (Kylie Rymanowicz, Michigan State University Extension, 2015).
