1 Ensure a Well-run, Purposeful Program Responsive to Par±cipant Needs Angell Brookshaw Rasmussen University EC121 Sec±on 02 Health, Safety and Nutri±on Christina Schwartz 01/28/202 2
Competency Statement: CS-V To ensure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to par±cipant needs, I am trained properly and make sure all staff are as well in CPR/First Aid, protocols, responsibili±es, and procedures. I stay knowledgeable of the age group I am teaching, providing age-appropriate lesson plans and ac±vi±es planned specifically for their age range, along with toys and supplies that are developmentally appropriate. I also believe strongly in and prac±ce maintaining constant communica±on with the parents, the children, and all other adults involved, so I observe children weekly and share with their families the developmental goals that are being covered. As an educator, I also believe there is always room for progress. CS-V-a: Observa±on and documenta±on are important in program management because it helps educators see pa²erns and plan age-appropriate ac±vi±es, gain insight into how the children think about their environment, and promote growth and development. It also helps educators understand the strengths and the needs of each child. Knowing each child individually helps me as an educator plan individualized and developmentally informed ac±vi±es and being consistent and a²en±ve will help me ensure accuracy. Documenta±on provides a record of the learning process and enhances and focuses communica±on with parents, and it also allows me to self-reflect on my teaching methods and tailor them when needed.
CS-V-b: 3 It is important to accurately and objec±vely observe and track each child’s developmental learning progress, so I will ensure that I do so in my prac±ce. I will make sure to put aside ±me for documenta±on of observa±ons at the end of the day or when children go home, to ensure I have dedicated ±me to focus on each child’s development. I plan to make observa±ons easily accessible to the families of all children I care for, considering their input and values and provide a daily schedule. I will make sure to observe each child in a way that is valuable, and use my documenta±ons to ul±mately assess their learning, growth, and development.
