What is your job title, and what are your primary responsibilities? I am the lead teacher and director for Pre-k through 3
rd
grade. I have taught third grade, Special Ed, Kindergarten, and two years Pre-Kindergarten and I am currently teaching kindergarten. I oversee my kindergarten classroom and my responsibilities include things like making lesson plans, complying and keep my classroom up to certain standards, and staying up to date on learning procedures and student activities. As lead teacher, I am responsible for delegating tasks to other teachers and organizing the meetings and gatherings needed for our performance. As a director I am part of a team that works things like designing and carrying out programs and creating quarterly curricula.
What type of program do you oversee?
I currently oversee my kindergarten classroom and the faculty affairs associated with creating a collaborative coalition. I also oversee the Accelerated Math program for the 1
st
through 3
rd
graders. I recently transferred from our Empowering Learners program that our wing produced that used afterschool hours to help tutor and mentor children in need. What education and experience do you have in the field? How did you obtain this job? I have a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from WGU. I have worked in a school district setting for 10 plus years, working a variety of jobs from secretarial work to aiding for teachers. I obtained my current job from going to school and working my way up in our district.
What do you enjoy most about your position? What are some of the challenges?
I get to watch students grow as they learn throughout the year. Some challenges include classroom management. Since COVID, students are struggling to adjust to normal classroom behaviors. Last year in kindergarten, I had 7 out of 21 students who did not know how to function in a classroom setting. They would become over stimulated and lose control in class. I spent most of my day redirecting and it made it extremely hard to teach. Before COVID, my job ran a lot more

smoothly. My fellow teachers and staff member did not carry the stress that has accompanied COVID. I have had to put together safety measures and procedures over and over again to ensure
our wing (K-3
rd
grade) of the school is preforming its best. How do you spend most of your time?
Most of my time is spent working with students to help them learn and understand the material. There is also a lot of prepping and planning to make sure
my lessons are engaging and ready to teach. I am responsible for leading weekly meetings as well as bimonthly and quarterly assessments. What qualities do you think are most important in a leader?
I think the best quality you can find in a leader is someone willing to listen and adjust their mentorship to help make a more productive working environment. A leader is there to guide, not to consistently criticize. A great leader listens and works together with their constituents to fix issues.
What are your main priorities as a leader/supervisor?
As a leader my main priorities are to help where I am needed and guide my students and fellow teachers to success. We work together, we learn together. I lead through examples. What advice would you give to someone taking on the role of leader/supervisor in an early childhood setting? Be patient, be kind, and be willing to lend a hand and listen to feedback. Working in early childhood can be one of the toughest but rewarding jobs as long as you are willing to listen to the people around you and treat every ten minutes as a new day.
1: How do contextual factors (like type of program, relationships, cultural issues) affect this
leader's approach to supervision? I feel like Mrs. Chamberlain has a more laid-back environment and pace than my first interviewee Mr. Barei. Even though Mrs. Chamberlain is director for a larger portion of the school she seems to view her responsibilities in a more relaxed

way. This is not to say that Mrs. Chamberlain doesn’t have important and significant responsibilities. Mrs. Chamberlain is the lead teacher and director for kindergarten through 3
rd
grade and is responsible for the faculty interaction. I feel like her personal relationship with the staff has a more personal feel because she seems to be currently working as “one of them”. She knows their current struggle and can empathize with them, so I feel this helps her to understand and appreciate their environment, relationships, and concerns. 2: What stage of adult development (see page 70-73 in your text) is this leader in? How do you know? How do you think this impacts his/her approach to supervision? I feel like Mrs. Chamberlain is in the 30s adulthood stage of the life cycle. From what I gathered she is in her later 30s and is working to be more accomplished. She maintains continued trust and respect between her and her fellow staff. She encourages her staff to become increasingly involved in their programs and school activities.
3: What stage of supervisor development (see page 79 in your text) is this leader in? How do you know? How do you think this impacts his/her approach to supervision? I feel like Mrs. Chamberlain is in stage 2 of supervisory development. She seems to be more confident in her position now compared to her past positions, but I did notice that she seemed slightly hesitant
about giving instruction to her fellow teachers since she’s only been in this leader position 2.5 years. She expressed how she always strives for their best and wants her children to reflect the hard work of the staff. In this way she seems to show deep concern for her colleagues and maintains high expectations for herself.
