Report
Early Childhood Education FAM 1247 Creating an Effective Curriculum Presentation and Invitation Report Gurleen Kaur Professor: Stephanie Ray March 18, 2022
INTRODUCTION This presentation is built on activities that encourage children to engage in play-based learning. Children who engage in many activities grow intellectually, physically, and socially. There are various children- friendly activities included in this invitation. Children love to experiment with color, so our I decided to use a variety of paint techniques to create our presentation. Therefore, I chose to include these activities. This report will include the definition of invitation, materials and activity descriptions, age ranges acceptable for invitations, invitation principles, the four pillars of HDLH, reflection on invitation planning, and references. Definition of invitation for learning “A display of carefully chosen and placed objects that captures children's interest and immerses them in a world of wonder, exploration, and discovery is an invitation to learn. The educational outcomes are carefully and thoughtfully considered while designing the invitation to learn” (Creating Invitations for Learning, 2010). The invitation to learn is thoughtfully developed with educational goals in mind. Invitation and the age group it is appropriate for: The invitation that created is suitable for preschool-aged children. It is important to have a display that invites children to participate in any activity. The information will be supplied in this case as well so that kids can come and do the activity on their own. There will be a showcase of several works of art that require youngsters to participate. To make it easier for them, a sample of the work will also be shown to them. You can display a variety of activities, including tape painting, sponge painting, and water painting. Basically, an invitation to learn is a carefully selected and organized display
of items that grabs children's attention and involves them in a world of wonder, investigation, and discovery. So, the activities select will allow children to get attracted towards the activities and engage with them. Rationale for choosing this activity: The children’s interest is the reason this activity was chosen. Youngsters are very interested in colors and experimenting with new forms of art. These kinds of interesting activities keep children occupied and aid in their acquisition of new skills. The colors are mixed and matched by children and this is what preschoolers like to do pretty much. ACTIVITIES : Our group conducted four activities during the presentation. Basically, we created an art table which was appropriate for the preschoolers. Since preschoolers enjoy and engage more in the messy play painting was a good option to attract them and keep them engaged. Our group conducted the following activities: 1) Tape Painting 2) Sponge Painting 3) Shaving Foam Art 4) Painting Colors TAPE PAINTING Materials needed Tape Thick construction paper Paint Activity rationale:

Through shredding tape and painting, kids will learn about color blending, negative space, abstraction, small motor skills, patience, and following instructions. Simple items are used for this project which makes it a popular and most commonly used activity because of the simple setup and cleaning. This activity also helps children to develop eye hand coordination while working with shredding of tape and painting. SPONGE PAINTING Materials required: 1) Dish sponge (with one rough side) 2) Bright painting colors 3) Construction paper 4) Paper tray for pouring the color Activity rationale: As, grabbing the sponge and holding it needs a grip which will help children to develop fine motor skills. Along with this, there are a lots of benefits of sponge painting such as experimenting and exploring with a new paint tool, sense of achievement and pride, colour recognition and sensory experience of exploring paint and paint filled sponges. SHAVING FOAM ART Materials required: 1) Shaving form 2) Liquid paint or food coloring 3) Bowl 4) Construction paper 5) Popsicle sticks
Activity rationale: Shaving cream would be a fantastic alternative to select because the children would like touching it and feeling its texture, and since preschoolers adore messy play. Also, the scent of the shaving foam would appeal to kids and draw them to the artwork. Moreover, using shaving cream and food coloring to play can help children learn a variety of cognitive abilities. It assists young artists to better understand three-dimensional shapes and can aid in pattern recognition. PAINTING COLOR: Materials required: 1) Painting brushes 2) Paper 3) Painting colors Activity rationale: Children can learn while having fun and excitement when painting. Children who paint are able to develop hand-eye coordination, a crucial skill at their age. They practice painting what they see as they learn to do so, making sure that their hand movements match what they observe. Furthermore, children can learn about proportions, forms, patterns, and designs by painting. All of these are essential components of their pre-school curriculum. Principles for designing invitations that are embedded in the invitation Two principles embedded in the invitation are: a) Drawing:
Children use colors on the paper to paint and draw in the activity Painting colors. This allows children to draw out their thoughts and ideas, which encourages active learning and gives them more self-confidence to communicate with others. b) Exploring: In this sensory activity, kids investigate various objects by touching or simply looking at them. Children can create variously textured paintings with sponges, and once the paintings have dried, they can explore various paint textures by touching and feeling them. Connections to the Four Foundations of “How Does Learning Happen”? or the Four Frames of the Kindergarten Program Document 1. Belonging: Each child who participates in group activities grows a sense of community. Children participating in these activities, like tape painting, may have a sense of belonging as a result of the teamwork required to complete tasks like painting the paper and applying the tape. While they connect with one another, the educator monitoring or directing them will help foster a sense of belonging with the children. 2. Well-Being: Each child will grow in their sense of self, health, and wellbeing as they engage in these activities. For instance, the kids will take care of themselves when making shaving foam art so they don't consume the shaving foam. Children's wellbeing will be aided by this. Moreover, research has demonstrated that people with stress, anxiety, and depression can benefit from creative expression. 3. Engagement :

Every child is a curious and active learner who uses their bodies, minds, and many other senses to explore the world in unique ways. Children will utilize their imagination and create a painting according to their own specifications in an activity like sponge painting. In this manner, children will actively participate in the activity and may discover new things, such as which is made by mixing yellow and red? 4. Expression: Each children has the capacity to communicate and express themselves in a variety of ways. In these activities, the children are able to communicate with each other and with the teacher, explain their work to the teacher, and share their feelings and views about the artwork they created. Reflect on the group process of planning the invitation: what worked well? What were the challenges? How did you resolve differences? While preparing the invitation, I had numerous ideas, such using loose components, water and sensory play, and many others. At first, I assumed that I would include a few loose ends in the planning. But as time went on, I realized that messy play and art-related activities would be the ones that would draw kids in the most. I made the decision to build a preschool art table as a result. Get the kids involved so they can explore their ideas. So choosing age- appropriate activities for kids that they may enjoy and learn something important became a challenge for me. The justification for why the particular activities were suitable for preschoolers rather than toddlers required some time to formulate. I made the decision to use painting, sponge painting, shaving foam art, and tape painting to draw the kids in and keep them interested in the activities by consulting the class notes. Shaving foam art initially baffled me because I worried it may make a mess on the table, but I ultimately decided to move on with the activity because it would be a wonderful sensory play for children. Also, I
researched about the benefits and importance of shaving form play which paved the way towards selecting this as a play activity for preschoolers. Conclusion: In conclusion, invitations to play are just a collection of objects arranged in a thoughtful, imaginative manner. The goal is to encourage children to explore, investigate, and play, as the name defines. They may be put up with the goal of encouraging preschoolers to explore and comprehend fundamental learning concepts, or they may be set up with no particular learning objective in mind. They could inspire additional investigation of a current subject utilizing other media, or they might just be enjoyable and fascinating. The basic goal of the invitation to play is to combine the materials and setting up no matter if the space is indoors or outdoors, with many or few props, or made of natural or artificial materials.
