Descriptive Statistics and Data Visualizations MHA FPX 5017 Data Analysis Healthcare Decisions
Introduction An analysis has been conducted on a nursing home evaluating the stats over the course of 70 months (about 6 years). A discussion on description statistics on Utilization, Satisfaction, and Readmissions and visual presentations are included to contribute to the decision on managerial performances and recommendations. Descriptive and Data Visualization Descriptive Statistics, which includes mean, median, mode, and standard deviation, was used to summarize the provided data. This makes the data easier to interpret to improve the administrative decision on retainment, retraining, and increasing efficiency. A histogram has been included to visually understand each category in the evaluation. Utilization For this nursing home, the utilization data over 70 months reflects the average rate. The mean utilization rate is 69.82 proving the current management has maintained an average utilization rate. The graph below has been added for a visual convivence of the data set.
Satisfaction The satisfaction data shows a flawed result. The range in satisfaction scores is vague and has a large margin of error with a standard error of 3.69. Although, there is a mode of 96, the median is 51.5 indicating there has been experiences that are not uniform and have varied patient to patient. The mean of 49.35 is validating the need for retraining staff at every level. The histogram below visually provides the collected data. Readmission The readmission rates are low and stable. The median readmission rate of 0.10 coordinates with the mean of 0.11, proving that the data is proportionally distributed. With a low standard error of 0.01 and a standard deviation of 0.05, it shows an inconsistent rate of readmissions. Highlighting the attention to the absence of Kurtosis contributes to the management's maintaining a low and stable readmission rate for the past 70 months _ Cooksey R. W., 2020)

Narrative Summary and Recommendations The goal is to maintain high utilizations rates, high patients' satisfaction rates, and relatively low readmission rates for this nursing homes. To increase the level of satisfaction and maintain low readmission outcomes, it is critical to maintain skilled staffed nurses, and highly effective communication among providers and patients. According to Warchol, S.J, et. Al. (2019), the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP) provides incentives to providers and clinicians with low readmissions rates providing continuity of care. With the high cost of healthcare, the rate of readmissions is a large contributing factor to the cost of approximately $17 billion (Warchol, S.J., 2019). In the study conducted by Warchol, S.J, et. al. (2019), suggests that healthcare leaders identify barriers outside their control adding to the trend of readmission because of patient health literacy. Patient health literacy is a contributing factor from the socioeconomic and demographics of the population being served. The utilization rate is resulted in a high rate but to what cost? Creating a collaborative effort among outpatient and patient preferred providers increases health literacy and reduces readmissions (Fleury et al., 2023).
