Students are expected to address the initial discussion question by Wednesday of each week. Participation in the discussion forum requires a minimum of three (3) substantive postings (this includes your initial post and posting to two peers) on three (3) different days. Substantive means that you add something new to the discussion. This is also a time to ask questions or offer information surrounding the topic addressed by your peers. Personal experience is appropriate for a substantive discussion, however, should
be correlated to the literature.
All discussion boards will be evaluated utilizing rubric criteria inclusive of content, analysis, collaboration, and writing. If you fail to post an initial discussion or the initial discussion is late, you will not receive points for content and analysis, you may however
post to your peers for partial credit following the guidelines above.

●
Answer the question posed by your classmate.
Please review post and response expectations. Please review the rubric to ensure that your response meets criteria. Estimated time to complete: 1 hour Universal Precautions were developed in 1985 in response to the HIV/Aids epidemic by the Center for Disease Control. Universal Precautions are a set of guidelines created to protect healthcare providers from blood borne Pathogens, when exposed to blood and bodily fluid.
As a medical assistant I will always wash my hand and wear gloves, masks and gowns when needed. I will never where the same gear from patient to patient room and I will be sure to use hand sanitizer or wash hands in between patients. The PRICE Model of Success has instilled to need to be professional and selfless. I will at all times take in to consideration my patients and their safety, and that means doing my part in protecting them from hospital acquired infections. This unit covered what I would call the lifeline of being in the healthcare field, not only for your patient’s protection but for you as well. Without Universal Precautions we would be subject to many diseases and able to pass them alone to patients as well. When it comes to Universal Precautions I am big on handwashing, wearing my ppe and being prepared when providing care to patients. The
last thing I want to do is take something home to my family or I catch something from work. I will always protect me and my patients and wear ppe when ordered, or just because bodily fluid or air exchange may occur that can get me sick.
What did you take away from Universal Precautions, did it make you more cautious of being in hospitals or clinics?
