Risk assessments (e.g., data breaches, medical errors, regulatory
noncompliance, etc.)
Explain in your own words the definition of the key area
assigned to you.
Health risk assessments, often called health risk appraisals, use
biometric testing to measure health, risks, and habits. Breaches are
typically prohibited Privacy Rule uses or disclosures that threaten
protected health information security or privacy. A medical mistake
is "an unintended injury caused by medical management" that
causes "measurable disability." Non-compliance means violating
healthcare laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Non-
compliance encompasses medical guidelines, instructions, and
organizational duties.
Briefly analyze what the assigned key area means to the
healthcare industry in terms of revenue, profits, and
productivity.
Various corporate hazards may cause substantial financial damage and
inhibit business progress. Thus, risk management may reduce project,
internal activity, and development goal costs by controlling negative
repercussions on the company. Risk assessments reduce workplace dangers,
improve safety compliance, and create a healthier workplace. Internal
evaluations are the best strategy to identify workplace concerns.
Discuss how your assigned key area affects cost, quality,
and access for health care services.
The financial burden placed on hospitals by their reactions to data breaches
has increased. The actions taken to rectify the losses caused by a data
breach can raise both direct and indirect expenses, and they can also divert
resources away from increasing the quality of care provided to patients. Data
breaches may lead to downtime, which in turn affects both health treatment
and the productivity of businesses. When there is adequate protection,
business is not interrupted by any security problems. By utilizing data that is
both accurate and up-to-date, medical professionals have the ability to
identify trends, predict results, and improve patient outcomes. However,
poor data quality in healthcare can lead to incorrect diagnoses, inadequate
treatment, and even injury to the patient.
Identify at least one U.S. law that has impacted your
assigned key area. Provide your rationale for why you chose
that law.
The Medical Errors Reduction Act of 2000 mandated the implementation of
fifteen demonstration projects with the goal of determining the most
effective strategies for the collection of data pertaining to medical errors, as
well as the implications of obligatory vs voluntary reporting and public
disclosure. As of the year 2005, they advocated enabling healthcare
practitioners who were involved in medical errors to reveal to patients in a
manner that was kept secret and to engage in talks for equitable
compensation.
