The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care? Topic 1 After reading about and evaluating the ACA and ACHA, it seems to me that the primary objectives of the former were to give all Americans access to inexpensive healthcare coverage, irrespective of their age, income, or prior medical issues. Insurance companies were not allowed to establish cash amounts for care and charge more for previous problems. It contributed to lowering healthcare costs by imposing regulations and levies on the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, who stood to gain the most from healthcare. Furthermore, childless persons making less than 100% of the Federal Poverty Level are now eligible for Medicaid coverage at no less than 90% federal match in the thirty-one states that have expanded Medicaid (Angelica .N, 2022) . The initial effort at the ACHA failed because it would have made reforms that were not in the best interests of American citizens. Medicaid expansion would have been stopped, and most people would not be able to re-enroll after 2020. Federal funding for Medicaid would also have been decreased, and coverage would have been capped. Millions of individuals would therefore lose their insurance as a result, and Medicaid premiums or out-of-pocket costs for those who are currently insured would rise. If you had a personal policy, the insurance company may adjust your rates according on your age. Seniors could only be charged 3% more than younger individuals under the Affordable Care Act. They might charge up to 5% extra for senior citizens under the ACHA. Among the significant modifications from the ACA were these (Weldon, 2020) . If this were to pass, insurance premiums may skyrocket, and out-of-pocket costs might rise for Medicaid recipients.
In summary, the number of persons who would lose their health insurance coverage and/or see a significant rise in expenditures in the absence of extra coverage is, in my opinion, the reason why the ACHA failed. In summary, I believe that political intervention is not a viable solution to solve our flawed healthcare system. When it comes to one of the most costly items on the table, our government's greed is too great to let the people make the decisions. But I also think there are far too many people who take advantage of the system. Although things might always become worse, the state of healthcare in our country is broken (Elani et al., 2020) .
