It allowed me to put myself in the perspective of a professional and use my ideas to create and propose several letters for my company's future and professional growth. After utilizing this course to its maximum, I have seen my completed projects and the progress of each writing, which has allowed me to grow as a student and professional in writing to take along with me in the business world and every area of professional writing. First, I want to focus on my accomplishments throughout the semester in this class period. Throughout this semester, I want to acknowledge my work efforts and ability to innovate different strategies for tackling my Writing Projects. I loved being creative, primarily designing and strategizing a business in multiple Writing Projects throughout the semester. For WP1, my favorite, I created a “Persuasive Email,” allowing me to express my creativity and ideas in completing that project. I did a vintage clothing business, so finding my ideal target audience
wasn’t a difficult thing for me to do. It allowed me to explore my niche and find the desired audience that would best fit my business, giving me the idea of creating my persuasive email. I focused on college students and made an email in the form of an image to best fit my email and desired target audience. Some of the strengths and weaknesses I have encountered during this first project, and even the ones throughout, include my creativity, as stated in the first paragraph. My creativity allowed me to have fun professionally (especially in WP1) and think critically about ways to achieve the goal of the assignments successfully. One of my most significant weaknesses during my assignments was that I needed to take the initiative to reach out for guidance. Looking at all of my Writing Projects, I realized that seeking the help of a professional writer, such as my professor, would’ve helped me recognize the areas in which I could have done better to improve the scores of my graded assignments. My average scores were 87-89, which wasn’t too bad. Still, I feel like they could’ve been better with the work I’ve put in, reaching out to my professor before submission to get general guidance on errors and mistakes and knowing what enhancements are needed to improve my essay writing. I’ve always had the mindset of “I know what to do” instead of reaching out on certain occasions, which would’ve helped me immensely in my essay. Not to say that I’ve never reached out, but if I had utilized my recommended help in constructive criticism, I would’ve done so much better in WP1. Writing Project 2 was the project I learned the most from, along with other Writing Projects. This project was the beginning of professional writing; in this project, I knew and understood the purposes of professional documents. I learned about memos, business letters, and business emails and how to format them to fit my business. I created a memorandum and a brief letter to my business team regarding a created event for my business geared towards college
students. With my memo, I learned and understood the importance of concision since it’s not meant to be a letter but more of a quick message to my audience, or in this case, my employees. In the process of writing this memo, I learned not only about conciseness but it allowed me to develop my skills in audience awareness, actionable communication, and professional formatting. I created an event in my memo that discussed the idea of a “Pop-Up” event and listed a schedule and a list of delegated plans for each team and employee. Focusing on my audience, my employees, was imperative in my memo because I had to learn how to communicate with them in a shortened manner and maintain a professional tone as if I were in the workplace, communicating with my employees actively. Even for my business letter, I learned how to communicate externally to other businesses through a letter. In my letter, I selected a business in Houston and discussed potential collaboration for the desired event, written in my memo. This allowed me to learn how to communicate professionally and effectively in my writing, allowing me to progress well as a writer. While writing WP3, this project has to be the project I feel most proud of. What made me feel proud as a writer during this time of the project was that it allowed me to be more enhanced in professionalism. In this project, I learned how to be more organized and understand how to expand my research in this project that dealt with collaboration, and other brand companies and organizations inspired me to help me write this project. During this project, my ability as a writer increased as I turned this into more of a research project based on collaboration. Although this project was a bit more tedious than the other two, it helped me see myself in the shoes of my specific target audience, which allowed me to change my writing—putting myself in the shoes of whomever I was collaborating with helped my tone of writing, and setting a practical proposal to whom I was reaching out in my writing. This plan stuck with me throughout my writing. Seeing

myself as the “receiver” of the proposal allowed me to effectively detail my desired requirements and information in a potential collaboration with my business. It creates a more significant impact on the status of my writing because it’s something I have never done, but WP3 has helped me change how I would see myself writing any type of letter or proposal surrounding business planning. It’s something that I intend to use throughout my writing course, and I plan on growing in that ability to increase my professionalism in this area of planning and organizing. It also helped me to be more innovative in the topic of collaboration and partnership. I researched and brainstormed several ideas that would allow me to write a proposal effectively and fit myself in the receiver's perspective. Understanding the receiver's perspective will enable me to tailor my message to their specific needs and concerns, which will change my status as a writer, especially in this area. As a writer who is always trying to improve, I drew myself to our in-class work and discussion posts that were always concerning our next project or what we would be discussing as a class and also for our personal project writing. With discussion posts and workshops, I used that to structure my writing process and use every discussion to incorporate it into my writing projects. Discussions such as “Creating a Yardstick” for our WP4 allowed me to think critically and strategize what best would go into my listed criteria to use for my project. WP4 dealt with opening a new location for business expansion, so we had to start with understanding and listing the essential criteria necessary for a new business location and why. This opportunity allowed me to be able to organize myself more in organizational writing, as well as learn how to measure decisions and solutions in business writing. While this project required more work and attention, I could reach out more often to my professor for help and guidance, one of the revision strategies I utilized throughout the semester. Prewrites with notes from my professor also shaped my
writing process during this project. I used my prewrites to get my professor’s ideas and help decide how to work throughout this project. The Yardstick discussion post was a status changer for me as I would try to list what would be essential and needed for my potential business location. It helped me know how to plan, organize, and ideally structure my project, which helped me better analyze what’s important in my writing and discussions. Using this strategy for all my discussions allowed me to brainstorm effectively and choose the right topic for each project. My professor showed me real estate, one of the main things I utilized in this writing project. I came up with a desired location, using all my resources to complete my project. This Writing Project, out of all other projects, was something that I considered to be very tedious and challenging, but it allowed me to use my strengths in development and brainstorming to guide me in this writing. Peer reviews were also a key factor this semester that played a significant role in my writing. Several students reviewed each project and told me my weaknesses and strengths precisely to guide my writing process. The most common weaknesses given to me from these peer reviews always included something with detail, concision, and organization, which allowed me to focus more on those weak areas and strengthen that part of my essay. For WP1, my professor had me limit my detailing; for WP3, I learned to be more concise in my writing; and for WP4, one of my peers mentioned clarity: “Some parts, especially when talking about findings, could be clearer. Business terms are used well, keeping things professional. The report is short, but some could be said more efficiently by cutting out unnecessary details.” After reading that statement, I made the necessary changes to my essay to enhance the project and utilize my resources to guide me effectively in my reading. In conclusion, this course has been a transformative journey, unraveling layers of my writing abilities. The self-awareness I gained, and proactive changes in my writing approach
position me for continued growth. I am grateful for the invaluable insights and look forward to applying these lessons in future writing endeavors. After all that I discussed in this final, the status of my writing has changed significantly as I have learned and utilized the skills and writing types to better my professionalism in writing. From how I originally wrote till now in my writing timeline, this course has allowed me to learn business writing skills that have helped me become more professional in business writing. Every aspect of my writing was something insightful to see, especially from where I started and how I was able to improve throughout my course session. I am delighted to have taken this course, which became an insightful one to always look back to and use the learned skills and resources to their benefit in my approach towards the business field.
