Running head: [SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS] 1 Five-Factor Trait Theory Patricia English September 19 th , 2022 Professor Christa Banton
[SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS] 2 The first leader that I chose is someone that I root for and it is Serena Williams. She is an incredibly talented human being in every aspect of her life she has been through so much growing up as a young African American woman whose life was not always as easy going, she has faced many challenges in her life growing up trying to become the best tennis player in the world which is why her father wanted so much more for her and her sister as they have had so much going on with them I would say somethings that are unique about serena is she is a fighter she never backs down when life is getting rough no matter what comes her way she remains positive. She is a strong woman but without the struggle that she has been through it would have not made her the person she is today as I view the five-factor trait theory when I start with openness “Openness to experience distinguishes people who prefer variety from those who have a need for closure and who gain comfort in their association with familiar people and things. People who consistently seek out different and varied experiences would score high on openness to experience. For example, they enjoy trying new menu items at a restaurant or they like searching for new and exciting restaurants. In contrast, people who are not open to experiences will stick with a familiar item, one they know they will enjoy. People high on openness also tend to question traditional values, whereas those low on openness tend to support traditional values and to preserve a fixed style of living. In summary, people high on openness are generally creative, imaginative, curious, and liberal and have a preference for variety. By contrast, those who score low on openness to experience are typically conventional, down-to-earth, conservative, and lacking in curiosity.”

People who score in the direction of agreeableness tend to be trusting, generous, yielding, acceptant, and good-natured. Those who score in the other direction are generally suspicious, stingy, unfriendly, irritable, and critical of other people.” Serena was a person who would tend to put other feelings before her own to make sure that they are feeling better no matter what the situation was she would always enjoy doing this as a young girl during a time she out her sister before her and let her start playing tennis by herself first because it was something she wanted to do in order to be who she now is it was all a part of the process of challenging work she’s been through various of hard times during her life as a tennis player. “Serena has been treated differently because of these perceptions, in effect, experiencing a racialized form of sexism or a sexualized form of racism. Her clothing, her hair, and her mannerisms on the court, have all been subject to intense media scrutiny. By discussing Serena’s hair and body, people talk about Serena’s race without discussing race directly. This speaking about racialized events, objects, or body parts, without speaking of race is the very definition of color-blind racism, and it negates the structural bases of racism. Furthermore, this is an example of the hyper-surveillance Serena exists with, showing that sport is a microcosm of broader society and the hyper-surveillance and punishment of Black people in general. Serena has experienced overt racism in women’s tennis as well. Most notably, this occurred at the 2001 Indian Wells tennis tournament, a tournament that neither William's sister played from 2002-

Nancy Spencer’s account of the 2001 Indian Wells tournament (2004) is the most useful for an understanding of what occurred.” Even though she is experiencing many tough times it just made her stronger overtime which brings me to the next personality trait conscientiousness which “describes people who are ordered, controlled, organized, ambitious, achievement focused, and self-disciplined. In general, people who score high on C are hardworking, conscientious, punctual, and persevering. In contrast, people who score low on conscientiousness tend to be disorganized, negligent, lazy, and aimless and are likely to give up when a project becomes difficult.” Serena is an organized and ambitious person. She never let someone control her throughout her life because she was taught to always stand up for herself through everything that came her way, I do believe that some of the personality traits had an impact on her leadership but in a positive way because she never let negativity get to her or affect her in a negative way she will continue to remain a strong person no matter what. The second person that I chose is Adolf Hitler because I think when he was a leader for his people, he ruined a lot of people's lives others may think differently but, in my opinion, I feel as he hurt a lot of innocent families and children's people were getting hurt for no reason which is why I chose to root against him because I do not agree with his views and belief's when I think of the next personality trait which is Extraversion hilter is definitely the opposite he did not enjoy the company of others or being happy around others he had a hated for a certain group of people he was not a happy person.
[SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS] 5 As I think of the person that he was the next trait is Neuroticism I feel as this trait fits the kind of person that he was he would have the tendency to have negative thoughts and make bad decisions or do not fully think before making a decision I picked Hitler because he has done a lot of damage and I feel as his personality was not so great, I believe that the five factor personality theory does have its strengths and weaknesses but I think it depends on the person who is actually going through certain things because I feel that certain situations can make a person who they are and it starts at a young age sometimes people can carry on the same type of personality or they can other change it and grow as a better person. Biology has a role in the five-factor personality theory because it is involved with our genes, living originalism it helps describe the diversity of each of these five personality theories we as humans face many challenges every day, we go through these factors each day and never really realize it.
