SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 2 Classroom 1 The early childhood education center that I am currently employed as a teacher’s assistant is Child Advocates of Blair County Head Start. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program that is free to low income families. Head Start serves as more than just a preschool to these children and their families. Head Start also helps children and their families get the proper assistance with housing, medical needs, and even therapy and counseling. The Head Start classroom that I observed for this assignment follows the creative curriculum, they are currently on the reduce, reuse, recycle study for this term. This classroom had 15 children in attendance with 3 staff in the room including, a teacher, a teacher assistant, and a paraprofessional. The children in this class are age 3-5. The duration of this lesson was roughly 25 minutes long. The materials that were used during the lesson that was observed was paper, foil, spoons, straws, plates, cans, and tape. The teacher in the classroom gave each student a bind with the materials that were listed above. The teacher told each student to sit on their spot with their names on the floor before she gave further instruction on the science lesson. The teacher in this classroom reminded her students about the current study they were studying, reduce reuse and recycle. Then the teacher asked the students what materials were in each of their boxes. The students were excited to see what they had in their box, the teacher then told them that their task was to create something out of the trash that was in their box. The teacher gave the students 10 minutes to create their recycled creation. The students created things that involved wrapping the plate in the foil and taping the other objects to it, and many other creations. After the students were done making their recycled creations the teacher had each child take a turn explaining what they made to their class and how they used the recycled materials.
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 3 There were multiple NAEYC standards that I observed during my observation in this classroom at Head Start. The first standard that I observed was Standard 9: Physical Environment. This standard ensures that the early childhood center has first aid bags, the proper furniture for the children, and fencing around play grounds. In my observation I saw that the chairs were child sized and the first aid bag was in sight. The next standard I noticed in this classroom was Standard 10: Leadership and management. This standard ensures that the classroom is in ratio, that the center is licensed, and that proper curriculum is being followed. The teachers in this classroom were in ratios of 5 students to 1 teacher. The teacher was following the proper curriculum that was provided to her as well. (NAEYC, 2024) This science lesson that I observed in this Head Start classroom had all of the students involved and engaged. The children really enjoyed this lesson and the teacher was able to have fun with the children. In my opinion the teacher did a great job making sure each kid got a chance to share their creation and making sure everyone was included. Classroom 2 The early childhood education center that I am currently employed as a teacher’s assistant is Child Advocates of Blair County Head Start. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program that is free to low income families. Head Start serves as more than just a preschool to these children and their families. Head Start also helps children and their families get the proper assistance with housing, medical needs, and even therapy and counseling. The next class that I observed was another class in the building apart of the Head Start program. There were 13 children in this classroom whose age ranged from 3-5. There were 3 teachers in this classroom which included, a teacher, a teacher’s assistant, and a paraprofessional.

SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 4 In this language and literacy lesson that the teacher did, the materials provided was a book. The teacher told the children that it was time for a story and they needed to find a spot on the rug. This lesson lasted a duration of 15 minutes. The teacher reminded her students the listening rules before she began to read the story. The lesson that was taught by the teacher was a language and literacy lesson that involved the teacher reading a book to the class with different motions involved in the story. The teacher read the book “Hush”, during the reading of this book every time the children saw the baby in the pictures they were to do the arm motions of rocking a baby. By doing this, it helped keep the children focused and engaged in the story. The teacher was very interactive during this story, she pointed out different things that were in the pictures, and asked the children questions throughout the reading about events in the story. There were a couple different NAEYC standards displayed during my observation of this classroom. The first standard that I noticed was Standard 7: Families, this standard means that teachers are talking about family structures and welcoming families into the classroom. The book the teacher read was about a family who was welcoming a new child into the family. The next standard that was displayed was Standard 1: Relationships, this standard consists of teachers creating a warm friendly environment. The teacher in this lesson created a friendly environment by making sure to interact with the students during the story. (NAEYC, 2024) This teacher that was observed did many different things during her lesson to make sure that she had the attention of her students throughout the lesson. The techniques that she used to make sure the children were involved, was one that I have never seen before. I really enjoyed observing this teacher’s lesson as it will help me with future lessons in my own classroom.
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 5 Classroom 3 The early childhood education center that I am currently employed as a teacher’s assistant is Child Advocates of Blair County Head Start. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program that is free to low income families. Head Start serves as more than just a preschool to these children and their families. Head Start also helps children and their families get the proper assistance with housing, medical needs, and even therapy and counseling. The next lesson that I observed was also in the Head Start building. This classroom had 16 children in attendance with an age range of 3-5 years old. There were 3 teachers in this classroom including a teacher, teacher’s assistant, and paraprofessional. The materials used in this lesson was a smelly (scented chap stick), calendar, weather board, and an I pod for music. This teacher’s lesson lasted 15 minutes. The teacher started her lesson with having all the children sit in a circle. When the children were ready for the lesson they all received a smelly as a reward (smelly Chap Stick on their hand). This lesson that I observed was morning circle. The teacher started morning circle by greeting her students and then having them turn and greet their neighbor. When greeting time was over, the teacher proceeded with the calendar. She asked the students what day yesterday was, then what day today is, and then what day tomorrow will be. She also asked her students to count how many days where in the month as well as what holidays are in the month. After calendar, the teacher moved on to the weather. She got the weather chart out and asked each student what they think the weather was going to be like for that day. When weather was over she ended morning circle with a song. She encouraged each child to find a partner to pair up with and even joined in dancing with them.
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 6 The NAEYC standard that I observed in this classroom where Standards 1 and 3. Standard 1: Relationships, consists of teachers making sure each of their students are involved and are creating a warm friendly environment. This teacher definitely displayed that as she made sure each child was involved and even joined in dancing with the children. Standard 3: Teachings, consists of the curriculum that the teacher is to be teaching as well as making sure that she is finding ways to engage the students. This teacher displayed that by using a reward system to keep the children motivated and engaged with the lesson. (NAEYC, 2024) The teacher in this lesson made sure that she went through all of the basics with doing the morning circle lesson. The biggest thing that I took out of observing this teacher was the level of interaction with her students. I find this extremely important because when the children see that you are interested with them I makes them want to be more engaged with the lesson. The teacher in this classroom did a wonderful job with the morning circle lesson. Classroom 4 The early childhood education center that I am currently employed as a teacher’s assistant is Child Advocates of Blair County Head Start. Head Start is a federally funded preschool program that is free to low income families. Head Start serves as more than just a preschool to these children and their families. Head Start also helps children and their families get the proper assistance with housing, medical needs, and even therapy and counseling. The final classroom that I observed was also in the Head Start building. There were 12 children present in this classroom. The age range for these children was 3-5 years old. There were 3 staff present which included a teacher, teacher’s assistant, and a paraprofessional. The length of this lesson was roughly 15 minutes. The materials that where involved in the lesson

SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 7 included a smart board, an ABC poster, a pointer, and a book. The teacher interacted with the children throughout this lesson through the song as well as the book. The lesson that I observed in this classroom was ABC circle. The Teacher started this circle by having the children sit on their name spot. She then selected an ABC helper who used the pointer to point to the letter during the ABC song. The teacher sung with the children during the song and even made it personal by using the children’s names in the song for each letter. After they sang the ABC song, the teacher read a book that was about the letter of the week. The book was a part of the alpha chant curriculum and was an interactive story. After the teacher said a line in the story, the children repeated. At the end of the lesson the teacher gave each child a sticker for all participating in the story. The NAEYC standards that I observed in this classroom was Standards 2 and 3. Standard 2: Curriculum, consists of what type of curriculum the teacher is following, as well as how it helps the students. The teacher in this classroom used the provided curriculum in the correct manner as well as participated to make sure children understood. Standard 3: Teachings, consists of the way that the teacher is instructing the lesson, and making sure that she is promoting engagement. The teacher in this classroom demonstrated this standard when she was including the children’s names in the ABC song to get the children excited for their letter to come up. (NAEYC, 2024) The teacher in this classroom used a lot of inclusion throughout her lesson. By doing this it made her students very eager to learn and be a part of the whole. The reward system at the end of the ABC circle really motivated the children in this classroom to become involved with the lesson. This teacher did a great job creating a fun learning environment.
