ESL Assessment Week 10
Discuss 3 examples when you have advocated for ELs or students.
Ensuring that I understand the needs of my ELLs, this includes family backgrounds
and dynamics, prior educational experiences, support system outside of school and knowledge of language proficiency levels. Collaboration is very important, this includes colleagues, administration, specialists, and any other individuals in the academic setting that will play a role in the educational journey for the ELLs. It takes place during various meetings, such as professional learning communities, grade-level meetings, staff meetings, and response to intervention. I have advocated for my ELLs in these mentioned collaborative spaces. I have also advocated in the form of equitable access. I am always reminded of the image where there are 3 scholars at different heights trying to see over the fence. When it comes to education and the classroom, ensuring that my ELLs have access to audio books, resources to use for translation, extended time, etc
