Running head: SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 1 Haley Anne Holder Liberty University EDUC 200: Principals of Education (B05) Professor Amanda Gittens Due February 12, 2024
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 2 The Preschool Perspectives in Kappan article, discussed the importance of quality childcare education centers and how they impact today’s children. Head Start, a federally funded program, provides children with health, family and education services. Preston explains that the benefits of Head Start is pretty much the idea of what every preschool or early childhood education center should be doing. Harold Shane explains Head Start has set the example for other schools, by drawing attention to poverty and children whose home life is not the best. “ However, growing societal awareness of poverty in inner cities and rural areas, the success of Head Start, and a developing understanding of the importance of the early years to later development had led to increased interest in doing something to help children whose home environments were believed to be lacking” (Preston, 2021). A Robert Anderson also gave the idea that a school should be a mixture of diversity, different types of personalities between staff members, and many different learning opportunities for students, and lots of play. For this to happened, that school would need a strong support system and every one would need to be on the same page. It was also discussed in this article that federal funding options are more open to programs that support preschools that are low income based, compared to elementary school and middle to high class programs. Early childhood education is very important for children as it helps develop their personalities and their development for learning. Early childcare centers and preschool also benefit working parents that do not have a baby sitter during the day. I enjoyed reading this article by Teresa Preston, it addressed the issues in early childhood education and the effect that programs like Head Start has on early childhood education. This article gave a great representation of what Head Start does and even some history of the

Without the creation of Head Start, who knows that education would look like in areas of poverty or for the lower class. This article gave clear examples to back up their reasoning’s and facts. The information that was in this article was very factual and interesting, but this article was a little difficult to comprehend.
