Experiment 3:
Student name: Jordyn Kaliszewski
Pre-lab section:
1) Introduction: Explain the theory behind this experiment in a paragraph between 150 and 250 words. (1.5 Points) For experiment 3, it is important to understand some basic concepts. These concepts include; what is electricity? What is a current? What is a resistor? It’s also important to understand electric potential/tension, Ohm’s Law, and series connection/parallel connection. As stated in the theory, the movement of electrons through a material is what we might call electricity. The number of electrons flowing through a selected area in a second is the simplest definition of current. The primary function of a resistor in an electrical circuit is to counteract resistance to electric current. This substance slows down electrons while current flows through it, lowering the strength of the current. The work of the electrical force on a charged particle divided by its value is known as the electrical potential, or tension in an electrical circuit. For Ohm’s law it is important to know three functions; 𝑉 = 𝑅𝐼
, 𝑅 =
𝑉
𝐼
, 𝐼 =
𝑉
𝑅
. A single "electrical path" connects components connected in series. Components connected in parallel are linked via several pathways. 2) Hypothesis: In an If /Then statement, highlight the purpose of the experiment. (1 point)
If two resistors are linked in series, then all resistors experience the same current flow.

4) In a paragraph between 100 and 150 words, explain what you Learn. What conclusion can you draw from the results of this lab assignment? (1 point)
The experiment produced data supporting the validity of Ohm's law. We can draw this conclusion by showing that there are differences in total resistance levels between connections made in series and parallel. Compared to a parallel circuit, the connection in series will have a larger resistance. We were also able to determine the current flowing through the parallel circuits using Ohm's law, and the calculated values correlated with the measured values. We were able to ascertain that components in a circuit have the same voltage when they are connected in series, and the same current when they are connected in series. 5) In one sentence, compare the results of the experiment with your Hypothesis. Why?

The results of this experiment prove my hypothesis to be true, because we can determine that resistors in a circuit have the same voltage when they are connected in series, and the same current when they are connected in series.

Shown below is a DC circuit that contains a number of switches. Each switch is resistanceless
when closed. All of the connecting wires may be considered to have zero resistance. All of the
resistors shown are identical. The circuit contains an ideal voltmeter. The diagram shows all of
the switches open. Beside the diagram are eight different switch configurations for the circuit.
Rank these configurations in terms of the voltmeter reading. That is, put first the configuration
for which the voltmeter gives the largest reading, and put last the configuration for which the
yoltmeter gives the smallest reading. If two or more configurations produce the same voltmeter
reading, give these configurations equal ranking.
