The phrase “the next big thing” has been used to describe everything from stars in the fields of entertainment and athletics, to new political leaders and emerging technologies as part of our ever-growing and diverse society in the 21
st
century. This colloquial phraseology can also be used to describe the world of academia, and the dramatic shift and has undergone over the last
few decades if not centuries and the way in which information is disseminated to a diverse student population with numerous various educational and technical skill sets as part of the learning environment. For generations, when talking about education especially higher education
in terms of how this would get information and various educational outlets of the times, it was done through the basic instruction from the blackboard with the teacher given a comprehensive lecture on the educational concepts and objectives that will be taught in the class, and the students taking while thought out and define notes with pencil and paper to reinforce what they were learning during classroom instruction time at the contusions.
However, with the advent of technologies and social media the landscape of education within the last 10 to 15 years has greatly changed and no longer resembles the traditional ways of
traditional learning and instruction in a classroom environment between teachers and students. In today learning environment it is more immersive and collaborative with technologies and social media, meaning that the educational experiences more immersive in his approach because students can go outside of the confines of traditional learning to have a four at the sheer learning with different resources that they can use for their enlightenment and development in their
educational pursuits. It is with that in mind the focus of this essay will be about emerging technologies that I as a teacher educator will see having a positive impact on learning and development within the next five years. Also, I will discuss how these emerging technologies can
also expand the learning environment for both teachers as well as students in presenting a more collaborative approach to learning. I will discuss two emerging technologies that I believe are crucial to the educational landscape for educators and students today, these technologies are social media and videoconferencing.
As a parent, when I think of social media the first thing that comes to my mind is my 11 11-year-old daughter spending time on as the grant to talk to her friends about their daily activities in school. However, social media and the learning environment has a greater mission and purpose for adult learners and active learning environment. Learning social media allows educators to touch on different in various topics in the traditional virtual classroom and go beyond the constraints of regular lectures or textbooks allowing the students to have a richer experience in learning. Thus, students can use online tutorials or other digital resources to drive home the point of different learning activities and fundamental that they may need to understand different educational concepts and constraints.

Social media also allows for that would be a collaboration with experts within their field of study to create a knowledge base on professionals that will allow the student to understand what is expected of them in real-world situations when they leave their institution of higher learning and how they are to performance professionals in the future in their organizations of employment.
The reason that I feel social media will be a training next five years in terms of educational development is because our children are dealing with social media learning and artificial intelligence in the elementary and secondary schools of learning daily, making them more proficient in using these types of technologies for their understanding of advanced concepts.

In five years, the days students at the elementary and high school levels will not only know how to use these emerging technologies but expect them to be part of their educational curriculum and development as they go through different stages of learning in the world of higher education in the world of academia, and educational leaders must be ready willing and able to implement these challenges and their educational organizations. Also, social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook are low in terms of cost to implement in your online educational
structure and will create active learning communities and communities of practice among students and faculty.
The next emerging technology that I see in five years having a great impact on the active learning community for students is videoconferencing. Videoconferencing has been used in the business world for some time now and allowing corporations and executives to have meetings at different locations without sharing a physical space. The same is true for the learning environment of the future for students who are going to avail themselves the opportunities of distance learning as a means of instruction and development for them.

Videoconferencing tools like Vdidiyo, allows for there to be a face-to-face interaction with teachers and students online and communicating and talking about different educational concepts

In the online learning community, we find that our learners are more connected to one another more than ever before, and videoconferencing is a way in which the connection to learners in the learning environment is a constant and evolving organism, that is constantly changing based upon the technologies and skill sets of learners in the environment. As with the component of social media in the learning environment, videoconferencing is very inexpensive when it comes to cost and will add to the footprint of the learning community for the students and faculty as well ever given learning institutions.
In conclusion, as future educational leaders receive the ever-growing effort of technology
on the world of academia, in terms of how it impacts its students and faculty at the institution. I am of the mindset that the educational institutions that are in front of the changing educational environment with social media and other technologies will be on the forefront of education for years to come in providing comprehensive and balanced education for its diverse student population in their communities.
