Krystl Brown - 103 469 507 EDU40007 Integrated Studies Assignment 1: Reflection. Name: Krystl Brown Swinburne Online University EDU40007 Integrated Studies eLA Name: Rebecca Yoda Student Number: 103 469 507 Due date December 11, 2023
Krystl Brown - 103 469 507 EDU40007 Integrated Studies The integrated studies unit, was fascinating to cover; I have seen both traditional and modern models used and aligned or been incorporated into modern practices, I made personal connection from my own memories of school. Remembering being at school consisted of the fragmented model, focusing on one discipline at a time and being distinct , I understand at the time ( Ifenthaler, Dirk, Pirnay-Dummer, Pablo, Spector, Michael, 2008). Once I was aware of the assignment, I made contact with the team, resulting in the presentation being completed with another student and I. The presentation I completed was the multidisciplinary section, I enjoyed the assignment, multidisciplinary is a personal favourite; the multidisciplinary approach fosters students being able to collaborate with teachers and peers, students show more engagement in their work abilities and motivation to achieve the learning outcomes. Students create their own knowledge and understanding by building their knowledge cycle through conversations and critically analysing information (Gamrat, & Kohler, 2023). Multidisciplinary approached link to my favourite theorists (Quay, Williams, Pietzner, Boyer, Browning, & Brodie-McKenzie, 2023). The theory of integration and unique perspectives on child development are supported by Vygotsky’s perezhivanies and Dewey’s occupations, both who speak of units of work in education as units of life. Teaching has to be reframed, but education should be broader, suggesting better ways to combine achievement of learning with engagement, and consider pathways through education are evolutionary and revolutionary to learning and development. Therefore, integration is improved teaching and assessing, which can be achieved by strong assessment performance criteria (Quay, et al., 2023). Both theory and model align very closely with my own personal beliefs, so I found this assignment extremely rewarding to see my own beliefs shine, Vygotsky is my favourite theorist; I respect his work and support his explanations.
Krystl Brown - 103 469 507 EDU40007 Integrated Studies Once our teams had been selected, I sent out an email to my team, introducing myself and getting started on the content. Our team soon became a duo, my partner and I worked well on organising the content and who was going to cover what section, we shared the workload around our busy personal schedules and tried our best to help each other out. We kept our communication flowing and made sure each other were ok to complete our sections and if they required support, at one point we had technical issues and I could fix the issues, my partner offered their support and fixed the issues. However, this interaction physically demonstrated integration through collaboration, we all have our own strengths and we all add value to learning new things ( Gamrat, et al., 2023., p104). Throughout our many conversations, if we found a good source or any relevant information that was beneficial to support a section, we would send this information through, I was able to explain my thinking or have a sounding board to bounce my ideas or concerns too. There were point throughout the preparation of our assignment that we gave each other ideas, constructive feedback or bounced our ideas off each other. As a team we monitored each section closely to ensure we were on track, before recording our audio, we ensured each other had gathered and sequence the evidence appropriately, slides were relevant to criteria, we supported each other throughout the whole process and each section was edited as team effort.
