Forum Week 3: Early Childhood Experiences
Instructions:
If you were an educator/guest lecturer for parents of young children, what do you think are the most important concepts for parents to understand about the role of early childhood experiences in development? Give at least 3 examples about experiences parents should provide
to young children and provide support for your choices.
Hello all
When it comes to the influence that early life experiences have on development, parents of young children should have a solid understanding of numerous fundamental ideas. A few examples of these are encouraging their children to express themselves freely, facilitating their children's social connections with other children, and establishing in them a clear knowledge of what constitutes right and wrong. It is possible that a child's creativity will be enhanced and that they will be able to explore various experiences in order to establish their preferences if they are encouraged to express themselves freely and without limitations. In addition, it is essential for children to have the opportunity to interact with other children, as this will help the development of behaviors such as sharing, working together, and comprehending the concept of taking turns when using or playing with something. The ability of a child to communicate effectively and connect with others can be considerably improved by instilling in them a firm sense of what constitutes right and wrong. This can be of great assistance to children in managing their feelings, which can have a significant impact on their intellectual development and overall growth.
Example #1
Allowing a child to choose what they want to wear or some of the outfits that they want when shopping for clothes is a terrific way to let them express themselves. When I took my daughter shopping, I bought her things but also allowed her to choose one or two outfits that she liked and wanted to get. The clothing she chose became some of her favorite things to wear, and whenever she got to choose what she wanted to wear, she always chose something she picked out when we were shopping.
Example #2
Facilitating social interaction among children enables them to get fresh perspectives and engage in activities that they often wouldn't pursue when at home with their parents or siblings. When I took my daughter to the park and played with her, she enjoyed herself. However, her enjoyment was increased when she had the opportunity to interact with other children of her age. This allowed her to engage in physical activities and games that she had observed in cartoons or movies, thereby enhancing her overall experience.
Example #3
Teaching a child the differences of right and wrong can involve a wide range of skills, including the ability to share things, ask for things, and develop a certain level of emotional self-regulation.
My daughter consistently shared things with me due to our father-daughter relationship, and she possessed the ability to ask for items from me as she had become accustomed to doing so through our teachings. She was used to asking me for things and getting them, so it took her some time to be able to do those things with other kids all the time. When she wanted to play with toys that other children had, she asked for them. Occasionally, she would get the toy, while
at other times, she would not. However, she was aware that it was not appropriate to just take an
item that another child was using.
