Studying Bahasa Indonesia and local languages or getting an interpreter is key for doing business in this country. 2. The Indonesian market is one of the fastest growing in the Southeast Asia region and is moving towards more digital opportunity. To be successful in this market, it is about building relationships with those you do business with. It is seen as a large community or family and entering it is critical to focus on building connections. 3. Someone in the company must either an Indonesian National or a foreigner with a work permit. Part Two: Hofstede Model of National Culture For each of the six cultural dimensions in Hofstede’s model of national culture, list the score for both countries and then draw conclusions based on the differences in scores between the two countries. UAI measures the tolerance of the society when it comes to uncertainty and ambiguity. Both countries scored moderately low meaning they are higher risk takers than high-scoring countries. Scoring moderately low in this category is good for joint business endeavors because both countries will be open-minded about opportunities to grow. Both countries also scored very close in the MAS category and are considered masculine societies. The roles of between the two genders don’t overlap as much and men are expected to be act strong and assertive to demonstrate success. Indonesia has a much higher PDI than the United States. PDI refers to the relationship between leader and subordinates and how they accept power. The United States is below the average
ranking which is 55. This is shows that the United States has more equality between different societal levels within communities, organizations, and government than Indonesia is in their country. Indonesia scored extremely low on IDV (Individualism) white the United States scored high. This means that Indonesia is a collectivism country, and it is visible when it comes to how people do business in the country. It is important for them to build relationships with business partners and works more in groups than as individuals and takes care of those in the group that are loyal. Loyalty is one of the most important things in this country, especially when it comes to the business world. The United States, however, prioritizes themselves over a group. They value solutions, independence, and how to close a deal. Indonesia scored high on LTO, and it is an indication that the country has a very pragmatic culture. Goals are based of realistic expectations and what is practical rather than theoretical considerations. Decisions are made based on the situation, context, and time. They show a impregnable ability to achieve results by adapting to traditions quickly within changed conditions, and have displayed a tendency to save, invest, and persistent in achieving goals. The United States scored low on LTO. The United States is a very practical country full of persistence and a “can-do:” mentality but is not consider a pragmatic. They have strong ideas of what is right and wrong and research to decide if something is true or not. Performance is often evaluated on short-term basis which motivates individuals to strive for quick results in their work environment. Lastly the two countries had different scores in IVR. Indonesia scored low in indulgence. The United States scored high and is an indulgent country meaning they have a good balance between work and leisure time. Whereas Indonesia scored low.
