D268 Task 2 – TEMPLATE
Instructions:
Complete and submit this document as your Task 2 for D268.
Section A
A1. Describe 1–2 interpersonal communication behaviors that you observed in the video
for
each
character and how
each
of these behaviors escalated the conflict.
Note
: The interpersonal communication behaviors could be verbal or nonverbal.
Tip: See Lesson 4 for more about interpersonal communication.
Raymond crossed his arms often throughout the conversation. This escalated the conflict by making him seem closed-off instead of receptive to what Jenna was saying.
Raymond also was not direct in his speech. He said, “I’m not going to sugarcoat this like other
people in this department do.” This statement (and others that Raymond made) could feel accusatory or passive-aggressive.
At the beginning of the conversation, Jenna shrugs. This could come off as avoidant and disinterested in what Raymond had to say, which would certainly escalate the conversation.
A2. For
each
of the behaviors identified in part A1, provide alternative behaviors that could have been used to de-escalate the conflict (s
uggested length of 1–2 pages)
. Tip: Be sure to address how each alternative behavior could have been used to de-escalate the conflict. *
Note
: The same number of behaviors need to
be addressed in both A1 and A2. WRITE HERE ABOUT RAYMOND.

each
of the characters in the video could have managed and resolved the conflict through the framework of negotiation, specifically addressing
each
of the following stages of negotiation (

): Tip: See Lesson 3 and the course
videos for more about the negotiation stages.
* Be sure your description for each stage is specific and gives an example of what each character should have done.
