Growth Mindset Reflection
1.
How do you feel about being identified with a growth mindset? What are your thoughts and reactions to this result?
Being identified with a growth mindset is something that I’m really proud of. I feel like it’s a positive way to view myself because it means that I’m open to learning, improving, and adapting over time. Having a growth mindset makes me realize that my abilities and intelligence can develop through effort and perseverance. This type of mindset makes me want to reach my full potential and get better at everything that I do. I feel like I’m on a journey of self-improvement, evolution, and I’m striving to inspire those around me. 2.
Reflect on specific experiences in your life where you have demonstrated a growth mindset. What were the circumstances, actions, or beliefs that exemplified this mindset?
When I think about times in my life where I’ve shown a growth mindset, I’m reminded about my experience of when I first came to the United States and English wasn’t my first language. I remember arriving in the U.S. and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the language barrier. I could understand some phrases, but having a meaningful conversation and expressing myself fluently was a big challenge. I was afraid of making mistakes and ashamed of my French accent. Instead of letting this discourage me, I decided to take it as an opportunity to learn and develop my language skills. I decided to immerse myself in English as much as possible. I was watching shows/ movies in English, I took English classes, and I practiced speaking with native speakers whenever I had the chance. With practice and effort, I was able to improve my English. Looking back, I can see how I embraced the idea of growth and improvement in that journey.
3.
In what ways has having a growth mindset benefited your personal and academic/professional development?
Having a growth mindset has greatly benefited both my personal and academic/professional development. By realizing that my abilities and intelligence aren’t fixed, but can be cultivated through effort and learning, I’ve approached challenges with resilience, expanded my comfort zone, and gained more self-
confidence. Embracing the growth mindset has empowered me to tackle difficult subjects, seek feedback, and excel in many areas in my studies and my career. Overall, my growth mindset has been important in driving my personal growth, academic achievements, and professional success.
4.
Identify areas in your life where you can further cultivate and apply a growth mindset. How can you leverage this mindset to overcome challenges and achieve your goals?
I see potential areas for growth in my public speaking skills and in keeping up with evolving technologies. By adopting a growth mindset, I can approach these challenges
as opportunities for improvement. I aim to overcome my fear of public speaking by practicing consistently and embracing each experience as a chance to develop my skills. Similarly, in the face of technological advancements, I'll remind myself that progress is achieved through continuous learning and small steps. I always keep in mind that practice makes perfect. This mindset shift will help me view challenges positively, persist through difficulties, and steadily work towards my goals.
