2 2-2 Journal: Perception and Infographics Reflect on the important role of audience perception in creating an effective infographic. The press release I am utilizing for my infographic is “Linn-Benton Community College and Snap-On Tools Partnership.” This press release contains information regarding the Linn- Benton Community Colleges history with Snap-On Tools and the new training program that is set to be implemented. Throughout this article, there is important information, however it is very boring to read. Creating an infographic allows an audience an easier and more efficient way to receive information. An infographic is “a visual representation of data or knowledge. It is used to present information quickly and easily, in a way that is engaging to the viewer.” (Eliza, 2022). The role of audience perception plays a major role when creating an effective infographic. For an infographic to be understand and utilized it must be easy for an audience to comprehend as well as eye catching. Our brains process images almost 60,000 times faster than text. Also 90% of information that is transmitted into our brains are visual (Brand Talk, 2018). We are visual creatures. If your audience cannot understand the purpose or information behind the infographic, it will not be effective or usable in any situation. What grouping and organization strategies will you use for content? Defend your choices. I am going to utilize all of the Gestalt principles; however, I have chosen to focus on the law of proximity. The law of proximity is when “we group closer-together elements, separating them from those farther apart” ( What are the gestalt principles?, 2022). By utilizing the Gestalt principle, focusing on this law, my audience will better understand each section of my infographic.
3 2-2 Journal: Perception and Infographics Reflect on a specific theory that can be applied when creating an effective infographic. For this infographic, I am going to focus on the Gestalt principle/theory. The Gestalt principles “comes from psychologist Mac Wertheimer’s conclusion in 1910 that the whole is different from the sum of its parts” (Page, J. T., et al., 2021) . By applying the Gestalt principle, I am able to create an infographic that can effectively apply components such as specific colors, and fonts. It is important to factor in color when creating effective charts. “ A good set of colors will highlight the story you want the data to tell, while a poor one will hide or distract from a visualization’s purpose” (Yi, n.d.) With the use of the Gestalt principle, I can create an infographic that keeps my audience’s attention all the way to the last photo or piece of information.
