Unit 7
Academic integrity 1.
Discuss two problems resulting from using ChatGPT and other AI tools to write your research essay for COMM 171. (100 words)
One problem that we can encounter using ChatGPT and other AI tools is that they do not provide proper information to the context that we share. This will result in our project
into the wrong direction which can give us a lower grade on the tests or exams. Also, some AI tools do not provide user-friendly language which will make it very difficult for the individual to understand. Another problem that can arise using ChatGPT and other AI tools is the most common problem that everybody faces plagiarism. ChatGPT and other AI tools go through different databases and insiders to give the content or answers, so sometimes the result
that it shows already might have existed. As a result, students can get expulsion from the college as it’s an academic honesty breach.
2.
How can students use AI tools such as ChatGPT in a positive way to learn- in a manner that does not breach the academic integrity policies at the college? (100words) Students can positively use ChatGPT to learn different things as it provides different content, views, and ideas. ChatGPT also provides suggestions for sentence structure and grammar and improves writing skills. Once they get the idea from the tools, they can easily write any kind of paper without any difficulties. However, if students have used any of the ideas from the ChatGPT they can cite them properly and acknowledge the external sources, which will not create any breach of academic integrity policies at the college. Also, students can treat the cited work as a secondary source in their project, which will allow the professor to consider it.
