TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION ASSIGNMENT #4
Assignment 4 – Graphic aid exercise
Student Name: Shahnavaz Patel.
Student Number: 183137215
Course Code – TEC400NBS
Section – NBS
Date – February 5, 2023
TASK:
Support the following data by creating two visual aids. Each visual representation must precisely communicate the data as clearly as possible. “We surveyed the students in 3 sections of TEC400 (total of 100 students) to gauge which aspect of the writing process they found most challenging: Pre-writing, Drafting, or Revising. The results among the 3 sections were consistent. Overall 50% of students said that they found the Pre-writing stage to be the most challenging, while 28% found the Drafting stage most difficult and 22% said the Revision stage was most challenging (see Figure 1
)
. These results suggest that we should place more emphasis on teaching and
practicing pre-writing strategies during the course.”

Explanation
(Briefly explain why you chose this method)
Figure 1a
Large data can be easily summarised in this graph.
Comparison of multiple data is accessible.
Provides estimation of fundamental values.
Requires additional written or verbal explanation to describe it.
The data can be easily manipulated.
Minor differences in the data are not
well defined.
The selection of chart 1a was made because it can easily compare and contrast different data at a glance. A single colour scheme can be used for all the data columns as there is segregation between the data, and no data overlapping can occur.
Figure 1b
Illustrates the number and size
of data divisions; it also
demonstrates how all of these divisions add up
to a sum of 100 percent.
Data is entered with precision for each part of a pie chart.
A section can be
pulled out to highlight it better.
Different colour for each part provides a better
comparison of data.
It is visually appealing.
The angle of some parts makes small pieces harder to see.
It requires a descriptive legend to explain the data correctly.
Small data are not well defined in the chart. They can sometimes
get obscured by extensive data and sections.
This chart was selected because it helps to explain the percentage of students facing problems in different writing stages quickly, as the total adds up to a hundred percent. There are only three sets of data, so a well-defined pie chart is created, and it is easy to read.
