Research Assignment Package Worksheet COM101 (Part 1) (15%) S hahnavaz Ishaq Patel, student number :183137215, COM101NCK 03921.2227 **This research assignment will help you prepare for your Writing for Change Letter** Research assignment package worksheet due date: Friday November 11 (11:59PM latest) DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THIS DOCUMENT or CHANGE IT IN ANYWAY. LEAVE IT JUST AS IT IS. Fill in the blank areas and submit this as it is. Altering it will make it void. You must use this package. TASK: Consider a current problem related to your program of study. This problem should be specific and focused; it does not have to be ‘solvable,’ but it should be something for which you can suggest at least one reasonable change to improve the problem. Your goal for this assignment is to learn about your selected issue that you will write about in your upcoming ‘Writing for Change’ letter. You can determine a topic by considering: an issue you have discussed in one of your program classes, an issue discussed in one of your program textbooks, an issue identified by the Seneca LibGuides for your specific program, or the list of suggested hot topics on Blackboard under our Assignments tab. Your first step in the writing process is gathering source material. For this research assignment, you will compile three sources. This activity will provide you with foundational research for your upcoming letter. To finish this assignment, you must complete the following steps: 1. Identify your research focus (a problem related to your current program of study) and your recipient (the person you believe is most able to make a real change regarding your selected problem—it must be a real person !) below. 2. Find ONE source that provides you with key information about your letter’s recipient. Find TWO sources related to your hot topic issue. All sources you select must be reliable . Fill in the information for each source in the pages below. You can submit package for your assignment. Make sure your full name and student number is on each page. NO NAME. NO MARK. 3. Print and read the material. Annotate (highlight, underline, make notes) the main points as you read. Make notes in the margins or on separate paper. Ensure these sources will help you learn about your topic and support your potential claims. You do not have to submit this with the assignment but save in case your teacher asks for your notes.
RESEARCH FOCUS: Complete the following sentences below. You can use more space on the next page to answer these questions if necessary but keep it neat. My proposed solution is Two areas I could research for this proposal are Climate studies and Ecosystem accounting. The person (the recipient) I am going to write to about this is the honorable Jonathan Wilkinson, minister of natural resources of Canada. Research File Worksheets List all three of your research sources in the worksheets below (one about the letter’s recipient, two about the solution you’re proposing) using APA citation. This source provides vital information regarding the number of natural resources used and gives a general idea about the impact of human activities on the ecosystem. Ecosystem accounting is a study regarding estimating the stock of natural resources and their quality. There is a case study of thousand islands national park to understand the human impact on the ecosystem and further provide means to prevent the degradation of this ecosystem. The pressure generated on this ecosystem by human exploitation is also a part of this case study as how conserving these ecological parks could prevent climate change and loss of biodiversity, USE A 12PT FONT

Climate changes are increasingly affecting Canada’s natural environment, economic sectors, and the health of Canadians. Extreme weather events are a vital concern for Canada, and there is growing confidence that some types of extreme events will increase in frequency and intensity as the climate continues to warm. The infrastructure in Canada is constructed according to a specific temperature; if the environment changes drastically, it would affect this infrastructure and damage it. In addition, the northern part of Canada would face a warm environment that would melt the ice, thus disrupting the access to ice roads. Several measures
should be taken to mitigate these climate changes and prevent further damage to the ecosystem. Nonstop action will help to build capacity, address information needs and overcome challenges. Adaptation can sometimes turn risks into opportunities and opportunities into benefits. Governments and industries should increasingly pursue collaboration and adaptive management approaches to advance transformation.
