Explain your thoughts on students using social media in class. How will you deal with dangerous issues, such as cyberbullying? Attempt 1 RH Randi Hermann Dec 13, 2023, 8:04 PM Good evening Dr. Guillory and Classmates. Positive Effects of Social Media: I would say a positive effect of social media would be instant access to information. Social media serves as an immediate source of information. Utilizing credible sources, it simplifies access to current events, local news, and practical information like weather updates or spelling queries. It also facilitates staying updated on friends and family activities, reducing the need for lengthy phone conversations. Negative Effects of Social Media:
A negative effect of social media would be the proliferation of misinformation. A major drawback of social media is the ease of access to false information. The spread of "fake news" can cause confusion and chaos among adults and children. Students using Social Media in the Classroom: Recognizing that social media usage is an integral part of student's lives is crucial. As educators, we should embrace this reality and guide students on responsible usage. While many schools impose restrictions on external sources like social media, high school students are usually the ones who frequently find ways to bypass these limitations with their cell phones. I do not personally think students should be allowed to access their phones while in class as they are there to learn. I am aware however, that situations are a bit different from when I was in school so having cell phones in their backpacks in case of emergencies, would be allowed as long as they stay put for reasons other than emergencies. Addressing dangerous issues: I believe if serious matters and/or dangerous issues were to arise, implementing lessons that underscore common social media mistakes, along with promoting values like respect, and encouragement, is vital. Students should understand that bullying, whether in person, over the phone, or online, is equally harmful. Establishing a clear stance against bullying and ensuring students are aware of the severe consequences of such behavior, is essential. Any incidents of bullying should be promptly addressed, emphasizing the seriousness of these actions. Randi
