Self-Critique Paper
I did include visual aids during my process speech to educate the class on the types of lock out tag out equipment. I brought my lock out tag out tag and lock and a plug cover to use as visual aids. I used easy to understand terminology and I was loud enough for everyone to hear me speak. I explained the initial process steps well. I limited the use of verbal pause such as “um” or “er” during the speech. However, I did not adhere to my outline very well. I missed some critical steps of the process when explaining lock out tag out. I did not demonstrate the use of a plug cover visually to ensure that everyone understood the process. I could have taken a short video recording of me performing Lock out/Tag out at my workplace to better illustrate the practical applications of my
process. I allowed my anxiety to get the best of me and did not practice my speech prior to delivery. I kept my visual aids in my hands too long during the delivery of my speech and that served as a distraction to my audience. To improve on my next speech I will practice the whole speech multiple times to ensure that I have my outline steps fully memorized. I will make sure to include my main talking points on note cards so I can quickly refer to them to stay on track during delivery. I will ensure that I have adequate visual aids for the next speech and ensure that the visual aids I choose are appropriate to my topic. I will make use of better visual aids for my next speeches to help convey
my central purpose better than I did with this speech.
