What rules do you think are the most important to follow? Why? Have you ever broken any of these rules? Attempt 1 RH Randi Hermann Dec 1, 2023, 9:55 PM Good evening Dr. Guillory and Classmates! After researching some of the rules of Netiquette, here are a few I find to be the most important to follow: 1. Respectful Interaction: The fundamental principle of netiquette is to remain respectful to others while online, a rule essential yet often sporadically understood or followed, even by experienced IT users (Gupta et al., 2022). 2. Responsibility in Engagement: Users must engage diligently and responsibly with others, upholding a standard of respect and avoiding harm through technology misuse (Gupta et al., 2022). 3. Combating Cyberbullying: A crucial aspect of netiquette is treating others as one would like to be treated, a rule often violated in instances of cyberbullying, which frequently occurs on the internet and social media platforms (Gupta et al, 2022). 4. Avoiding Plagarism: Adherence to netiquette involves avoiding plagiarism, defined as using other's ideas or words without proper attribution, a significant issue in academic and digital contexts (Gupta et al., 2022). 5. Adherence to User Responsibilities: Users are expected to use IT resources for intended purposes, refrain from posting offensive content, avoid impersonation, report security risks, and respect others intellectual property and privacy (Gupta et al., 2022).
All of the above rules are essential as they promote a respectful, ethical, and responsible digital environment. I have never intentionally broken any of these rules, though I may have come across as rude at times in past social posts that might have felt disrespectful to other's beliefs or feelings. The only other one that I may be guilty of is not providing resources in past work which would come across as plagiarism. Gupta, A., Singh, S., Aravindakshan, R., & Kakkar, R. (2022).
