WRITING FOR MEDIA: FINAL ASSIGNMENT 2 Writing For Media: Final Assignment Question 1 “The auditor general finds questionable COVID benefit payments of at "minimum" $27.4 billion.” By <Student Name> Monday, December 12, 2022 There is likely to be a failure to recover "substantial" amounts in overpayments, according to Canada's auditor general, and the government should evaluate a "minimum" of $27.4 billion in suspicious COVID-19 benefit payments. This highlights how quickly the government responded to the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns by developing six aid programs that disbursed a total of $210 billion to individuals and businesses. But how the government handles the programs and subsequent efforts to collect payments is crucial. Since a large sum was paid to ineligible participants, few changes were made as programs were extended, and progress on post-payment verifications was slow, the report concludes that the Canada Revenue Agency and Employment and Social Development Canada inefficiently managed the selected COVID-19 programs. The auditor general's estimate of the number of ineligible wage customer benefit recipients is not shared by the department. True departmental verifications show that conformity with the subsidies was high, despite the auditor general's inflated estimates. According to General Karen Hogan, the program's post-payment verifications aren't nearly enough to account for all invalid payments. For "the large sum paid to ineligible clients," "minimal adjustments when programs were extended," and "poor progress on post-payment verifications," the report is critical of both organizations. The government would take a "sympathetic" and "balanced" strategy for collecting overpayments and apprehending criminal fraudsters.
WRITING FOR MEDIA: FINAL ASSIGNMENT 3 Question 2 – Organizational Pattern of a ‘Featured Article’ The following is the way in which a ‘featured article’ is supposed to be organized. An introductory paragraph sets the tone for the piece by providing context so as to introduce the reader to the topic at hand; the main body expands on this introduction with supporting details; and a concluding paragraph that sums up the piece, leaving the audience with a lasting impression (Roberts, 2016) . Template for Feature Stories Although the specific structure of a feature article will change depending on the subject matter, it will always consist of an introduction, body, and conclusion. Name (Identifying information) and a Headline There are many important functions that the headline performs. A catchy title is one that gets: people click through to read the rest of the article. Draws attention to the article's central argument. contains the desired search terms (for online articles). Detailed Article The way to write the introduction The first paragraph of an article is the introduction and the same serves to: Get the reader thinking by making a provocative statement or asking an unusual question. Justify your actions by providing any necessary context. Introduce a contentious assertion to get the reader invested in your argument. Amplify the dramatic stakes of an experience to make it more interesting. Determine the author's attitude.

WRITING FOR MEDIA: FINAL ASSIGNMENT 4 The best writing is the kind that establishes an emotional bond between writer and reader. I cannot write on this topic without including my own thoughts and feelings. Information (the main content of the article) Several paragraphs develop the article's basic concept into subtopics and are located in the article's middle section (Roberts, 2016). The following are examples of typical components: Titles of subsections. Evidence from statistics and other sources that the author believes strengthens their argument. unique points of view. Authority figures and experts' opinions. Interviews and a citation compilation. Anecdotes and tales. Precise identification of people, places, and times. Conclusion The conclusion of an article is usually the last paragraph, which helps to make an impact on the readers, using the concluding sentence. Such a connection would be created as the concluding sentence helps in the following: Outlining an appropriate course of action and reiterating the article's key premise (through a quick summary of what has been discussed). Motivating a change in outlook by telling a tale that resonates with my audience and encourages them to think differently. b) ‘Tension’ and its importance in a feature article Tension is utilized to keep readers engaged and move the story along. However, it might be difficult for first-time authors to build suspense in their novels in a way that sounds
WRITING FOR MEDIA: FINAL ASSIGNMENT 5 plausible. There must be suspense in every plot (NY Book Editors, 2020). The target audience of the story should be interested and involved throughout it. They are looking for a personal investment in the story's protagonist, antagonist, and other key characters and situations. Creating suspense is the most effective means of eliciting such a response from the reader. It is precisely this purpose that tension would serve. WRITING FOR MEDIA: FINAL ASSIGNMENT 6 Question 4 - Call to Actions The Extreme Toronto Sports Club is the type of organization I am planning to work with in the future. The reason behind my interest in this organization is I am a fitness freak and sports enthusiast. This club targets young adults and families with kids aged 5 to 12. In doing so, the group will boost the emotional and physical well-being of kids everywhere (Roberts, 2016). Youngsters will have a lot of fun in the group while picking up lifelong skills including conflict resolution, discussion, helping others, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. Parents are the target audience, thus it's important for them to have a favorable impression of the benefits the Club offers in order to encourage their children to join. Children raised in a positive and encouraging atmosphere are more likely to follow in their parent’s footsteps and sign up for The Extreme Toronto Sports Club soccer team. Offers: The Extreme Toronto Sports Club is a great place for kids of all ages and skill sets to participate in leagues and tournaments. Most of the club's members and visitors are from middle-class Milton, Oakville and other close by neighborhoods of Toronto.
