Compare And Contrast Two Friends
We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also
friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For
example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They
both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different
than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and two inches
with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. She has big eyes and also freckles on her
face. Nicole tends to dress very casually. For an instant, she would wear jean with a graphic tee or a
blouse and navy blue classic vans. She occasionally keeps up with the latest fashion trend. On the
other hand, Amy is just 5 feet tall with

Nicole's personality is super shy and, quiet when it comes to new people or people she rarely talks
to. However, when it comes to people she likes and enjoys talking to, she is a social butterfly. Amy
was never in any a team sport. However, she plays tennis with her cousins for fun. Amy is really
sociable and blunt at the same time
. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across from us
were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while Nicole is
more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. For
example, during summer, our friend, Julie, invited Nicole, Amy, and I watch Green Inferno. Nicole
did not want to come along due to the fact that when she watched the trailer of that movie she found
it super gory and disgusting. However, Amy did not find that trailer gory and disgusting and came
long to watch the movie with us. Amy enjoys watching horror or supernatural movie or shows. For
example, during the month of October, there was a movie call Crimson Peak and Amy wanted to
watch it while Nicole did not want

In the poems ¨Casey at the Bat¨ and the story ¨David and Goliath¨, Casey and David have very
distinct similarities and differences. The first similarity is that both David and Casey like to win.
From line 47 in the story ¨David and Goliath¨ and on line 23 for the story ¨Casey at the bat¨.Both of
them were extremely confident they would win at the fight/game, David was confident because he
knew he had God on his side because God helped him before, and Casey was confident because he
had pride and all the parents cheered for him. Another reason why David and Casey are similar are
because both of them are brave. On line 7 and 8 in the story ¨Casey at the bad¨ and on line 40 for

Compare and Contrast Economic Market Systems In differentiating between market structures one
has to compare and contrast public goods, private goods, common resources, and natural
monopolies. All of these are major factors that need to be considered. Public goods are those goods
in which all of society benefit from and are equally shared among everyone within. These types of
goods can be consumed simultaneously by several individuals without diminishing the value of
consumption to any individual. The act of public goods being consumed by several individuals and
not allow its value to diminish is known as non–rivalry. When shown graphically, non–rivalry shows
that when each of the individuals within society shows a demand for a certain

Compare and Contrast
"Young Goodman Brown" and "The Lottery"
By: Melissa A. Reeves
Professor Andrew Smith
ENGL 102–B46 LUO
Thesis Statement
The stories "The Lottery" and "Young Goodman Brown" both appear to show that human behavior
and judgment can be flawed, even if the person's intentions appear good to them. There is a level of
fear and underlying evil in Puritan settings in both stories.
I. Introduction/Statement of Thesis
II. Themes and Author's Purpose A. The Lottery i. Just because something has always been done,
does not make it right or just; following the crowd can be dangerously wrong and evil. ii. The author

The theme of the story "The Lottery" is blind acceptance of something just because it is considered
tradition. In Jackson's "The Lottery", symbols are utilized to help show the theme. The name of the
story, "The Lottery", itself is a symbol
. The term lottery can be viewed, by most, as a good thing, a
hope in winning, but winning the lottery takes on a very different, very dark meaning in Jackson's
story. Also, the names of the characters are symbols as well. For example, Graves is a name that
would portray death and Summers is a bright and cheerful name. Also, the name Old Man Warner
would show tradition. Next, is the use of the black box and the black dot on the paper. The color
black is showing darkness, evil, and death. The tradition of the black box is a symbol, in the fact that
it is worn and faded, but still used by the villagers. Shirley Jackson conveys the theme very clearly
through the use of symbols. In the end, the villagers are shown to be evil and murderous just
because of tradition. The villagers do not seem to have a problem with murdering others within the
lottery because it is what they have always done and no one is going to declare that what they are
doing is wrong. This shows the reader that following blindly can have dangerous consequences. The
theme of "Young Brown Goodman
" is that the main character is basing his beliefs and faith on what
others in his life believe or have faith in. The theme of "Young Goodman

Compare And Contrast Anxiety And Depression
There are many similarities between mental disorders like anxiety and depression. Often times,
many symptoms of one disorder stem off of having the other. For example, symptoms of anxiety can
be brought on by depressive thoughts, such as thoughts about suicide, and visa versa. The
differences, however, are far more prominent than the ways they are the same. Anxiety is a disorder
characterized by fear, doubt, and a sense of vulnerability. People with anxiety tend to have less
noticeable symptoms than people with depression, as symptoms of anxiety are things such as
physical sensations of strong emotions of fear. Depression symptoms are more physical and
noticeable from the outside, such as lack of eating or sleep, or lack of interest in doing things.
People with depression may become

Anxiety can also run in families, or be caused by outside conditions such as excessive stress, drastic
changes in living conditions, or abuse. Depression on the other hand, is caused by changes in brain
chemistry. However, like anxiety, depression can be caused by genetics and medical conditions that
create an imbalance of the brain's chemicals. Depressive episodes often last for days, leaving a
person mopey and sluggish, or, on the other side of the spectrum, frighteningly up, or manic. This is
when a person seems to have boundless energy and doesn't sleep for days. Episodes of anxiety last
much shorter periods of time, flaring up and disappearing within the same day. Symptoms of an
episode can include increased heart rate, sweating, and trembling. These can be combatted with
controlled breathing, while generally, depressive episodes have to run their course. Anxiety and
depression are two very different, though just as harmful disorders. When you have one, you
generally have the other It's a vicious cycle, but luckily, there are proven ways to break it. Help is an

Compare And Contrast My Best Friend
Friendship is a bond that is created between two people who care for each other. Everyone, at least
once in life, used to have a best friend. One day my grandpa Amilcar saw me sad and told me that I
could trust him. What is more important, is that he said that he was like my second dad because he
loves me as his own son. As a result, we started developing a closer relationship. Now, he is always
looking for me to spend some time together. For this reason, I can say that one of my best friend is
my grandpa. He is a very interesting friend with many characteristics that are worth mentioning. In
contrast, my grandpa Amilcar is an average–looking man that has a unique personality and enjoys
interesting hobbies. My Grandpa has many characteristics that describe him. As a case in point, he is

in his entire life. All this knowledge from books and experience of living for many years make him

he starts telling me about interesting facts or stories about other parts of the world. Next, Amilcar is
very respectful. He knows how to treat people with respect. Amilcar has friends that, over the years,
have done bad things to him and he stills treat them with respect. As an illustration, he told me once
"Treat others how you want to be treated and everything will be good for you." Furthermore, my
Grandpa is an optimistic man. For instance, he tries to show me the positive side of things. For
example, one day I was angry and I started cursing everything when my Grandpa told me that
instead of being mad I should be counting my blessings. Amilcar is always expecting something
good whenever he goes. In particular, every time I see him he has good news for me. All of this is
what makes my Grandpa have a unique

People and cats have certainly had a chequered relationship. Revered by ancient Egyptians then

make your writing sound tedious and repetitive. Watch your language and transition words. Use

Ending: As in the argumentative essay, bring it all together. Allow your ending to go back to your

Remember: There are no hard and fast rules as to how many comparisons or contrasts you should

Compare And Contrast Worldviews
Comparing Worldviews
Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world
through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text,
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for
comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews,
although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life.
Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or
both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews
attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse
notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these
world views, there are multiple differences found.
When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different
approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it
will phase off the earth
. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the
creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a
spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism
are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Compare And Contrast Essay Psychology
Amanda is struggling with her relationship with her parents which is typical for adolescents. She
wants to express herself through her clothing and her parents are trying to pressure her into dressing
more feminine or more typical. They pick on her habits, such as burping, which are not seen as very
lady–like. Amanda's parents are also not very accepting of her sexuality. Whenever they seem to
bring up the topic in conversation, both Amanda and her parents begin to argue. Her parents do not
understand her, while her friends do. She feels unaccepted by her parents, which strengths her
relationship with her peers and weakens the relationship with her parents.
Mandy is a young girl experiencing romance for the first time in her life. She is very excited about
the idea of boys liking her since she believes she was unattractive at a young age. This stage is
important because Mandy is beginning to explore her sexuality and making
connections/relationships with others. She has developed an obvious attachment to a few boys. She
believes that she understands the real meaning of love opposite to her parents. This idea supports
egocentrism in adolescence in which teenagers believe that their parents do not understand the
emotions and the experiences they are having.

Amanda's problems stem from her parents' inability to accept her sexuality and Mandy's from her
parents' discovery of her sexual activity. Both of these issues cause tensions of the child–parent
relationship. In adolescence, teens tend to spend more time with their peers and can find support and
loyalty from friends. This quality and the strains on child–parent relationships accounts for the
decreased amount of time spent with parents and increased amount of time spent with friends in

COMPARISON AND CONTRAST ESSAY
Comparison and Contrast Essay
Definition: In this kind of essay, the aim is to show the similarities and differences of two items, two
people, two countries, or how something or someone has changed. When comparing two things, we
focus more on the similarities though we may mention the differences shortly. When contrasting two
things, we point out the differences between them. The most important point to consider while
planning a comparison and contrast essay is choosing comparable items. e.g. Middle East Technical
University and Bogazici University. We have to make sure that these two items have enough points
to be compared. After writing the comparable points as a list, location, size, reputation, ...show more

Compare And Contrast A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Flannery O'Connor wrote "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" in 1953. O'Connor was an American
novelist, short story writer, and essayist. She was a southern writer who included her own Roman
Catholic faith along with questions of morality and ethic in her work. Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote
"Young Goodman Brown" in 1835. Hawthorne was also an American novelist and short story writer.
Much of his writings contain moral metaphors with Puritan inspiration. His works are often centered
in New England and focused on evil and sin. In these two writings the epiphanies presented do have
some similarities, but are almost the exact opposite in every aspect.
While Young Goodman Brown is naive and innocent before his epiphany, the grandmother is smug
and self centered. Young Goodman Brown seems to be a happy god fearing christian that looks up to
his fellow townspeople. He believes they are all good citizens who he should be learning from and
using as role models. He also seems a bit nervous and excited for his unknown task in the forest that
evening. The Grandmother on the other hand is

experience. O'Connor said it best, " A stern, a sad, a darkly meditative, a distrustful, if not a
desperate man, did he become, from the night of that fearful dream"(10). Young Goodman Brown
has become cynical and pessimistic. He is questioning everything in town as a skeptic. He no longer
believes in the good of man and carries these negative feelings to his grave. Unlike Young Goodman
Brown, the Grandmother only had mere moments to experience the after effects of her epiphany. In
those moments she is genuine about her realization. She seems happier than she has been throughout
the whole story. In death her face was "smiling up at the cloudless sky" (O'Connor

Compare and Contrast Essay
Compare and Contrast Essay By definition; love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for
another person. Love can be interrupted in many ways. Were we ever taught love or is it just a
natural feeling towards a person? Some say you'll know the meaning of love when you fall in love,
yet some don't believe in love at all.
The sculpture "LOVE" created by Robert Indiana and the sculpture "The Kiss" made by Auguste
Rodin both share some of the same meanings behind the art work (Indianapolis Museum of Art)
(Rodin's The Kiss Sculpture). A major similarity between the two is love; which attracts and speaks
to people all around the world. Although they are spoken in different ways, they both have the idea
of making love. Whether it be

This piece is also an abstract form of art and more modern the color is red and has a feeling of
happiness and joy and you have the urge to feel love just by seeing it so large and up front. "LOVE"
has always been placed out in the open demanding attention from a lot of people to see. "The Kiss"
is more of a classic form of art and has been placed in more private areas. Although it has a
distressing grey color "The Kiss" has more depth; the feeling of intimacy is strong and makes a
statement.
There are both similarities and differences in "The Kiss" and "LOVE". The emotion and meaning
behind both are incredible, it shows and understands the meanings of love, lust, joy, and intimacy.
Love can either be spelt out or expressed by action and is what both pieces show. Love can be
interrupted in many ways, but there always has to be a kiss in love.

Process Analysis and Comparison and Contrast Paper: Belgium and United States
Because I'm a foreign student from Belgium, I thought it would be interesting to compare and
contrast Belgium to the United States. When you first see and start thinking about the title "Compare

randomly chosen countries who are pretty much equal too each other. You are absolutely wrong, if
this was your first thought. If you take a closer look to both countries, you will see some huge
differences between them. Belgium, a really small country, is located in northwestern Europe. The

Compare and Contrast
This type of writing assignment is common. On a standardized test, you may be asked to analyze
literature, evaluate ideas, or make a judgment and explain your reasons.
In responding to these types of prompts, you often will compare and contrast characters, concepts,
or choices. You will be asked to identify similarities and differences, which are the key to compare–
and–contrast essays.
There are ways to organize your thoughts about compare–and–contrast topics, which will help you
write thoughtful and balanced essays.

Gathering Details

Compare and Contrast

Inexperienced teachers have a good subject specialism, this is generally fresh from their training,
however not much practical experience in the classroom and dealing with difficult situations. "For
many newly qualified teachers, while pupils provide the ultimate reward in teaching, their poor
behavior was often the cause of the major low points". In some aspects there is very little difference
in experienced or new teachers in relation to their knowledge in their subject, both should know
their subject well and keep their knowledge updated on a regular basis. Also both want to make a
difference to their students' life, to teach them to the best of their capability. However there are
differences in how they teach their subject, how they come across to their students and how they
manage their classrooms. More experienced teachers will be more confident in their approach, more
prepared to deal with a variety of learning needs, have made mistakes in the past and learned from
these to better prepare themselves for the future. Generally new teachers lack the confidence to
teach which can only be gained through experience, they need to learn what works and what does
not, reflect on this and incorporate this into their next lesson. New teachers do however have a
willingness to learn, to adapt, and to mould themselves into a confident and knowledge teacher. In
conclusion my insight into the differences and similarities of both the experienced and

Compare and Contrast Essay
A vignette from The House on Mango Street, "Those Who Don't," by Sandra Cisneros, the poem
"My Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough," by Stephen Spender, and another poem
"We Real Cool," by Gwendolyn Brooks share many similarities and differences. These three pieces
of literature talk about racism and rough children. "Those Who Don't" is about racism and how
people think about others without getting to know them. "My Parents Kept Me from Children Who
Were Rough" explains how a good child wants to be like other children who are bad. "We Real
Cool" talks about pool players who are bad. These pieces of literature compare and contrast between
figurative language, point of view, and theme. The three pieces of literature are similar

Soon, they do the same or try to be the same. They also think that the coarse children or the other
race is terrible. "My Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough," "Those Who Don't" and
"We Real Cool" are the same because they are safe with all the same kind of people around. "My
Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough," "Those Who Don't" and "We Real Cool"
because they are told in different perspectives. All these pieces show differences and similarities of
point of view. The pieces also comparisons and contrasts so many other ideas. Figurative language
in all these works of literature differ. For example, "We Real Cool" shows mainly alliteration. "We/
Sing sin. We/ Thin gin "(5 to 7) shows the alliteration with the word "we." It also shows repetition
with "we." "Those Who Don't" shows barely any form of figurative language. "... our knees go
shakity–shake..." (28) is an onomatopoeia. Mostly there isn't much figurative language in "Those
Who Don't." "My Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough" has a lot of similes. "Who
threw words like stones..." (2) explains a simile meaning that the children said cruel words. These
pieces are all alike because they mainly show or only have one kind of figurative language. "My
Parents Kept Me from Children Who Were Rough" and "We Real Cool" repetitively uses figurative
language. "Those Who Don't" is different than the others
