Introduction
Chinese-American culture is integral to the American cultural tapestry, thus this interview aimed to gain insight into these two cultures’ interrelations. During our conversation, I had the occasion to engage in a dialogue with Ms. April Li, who hails from a Chinese traditional background. This interview aimed to explore her diversity and identity as a Chinese American, primarily focusing on ethnicity and race. This area of diversity stands in stark contrast to my cultural heritage, as I come from Mexican descent, deeply rooted in a family with a rich Mexican
cultural history. Our family traditions, customs, and values are steeped in Mexican culture, starkly contrasting Ms. Li's Chinese-American background. This diversity interview allowed us to examine these disparities in cultural experiences. The primary aim was to gain insights into the importance of diversity, particularly regarding ethnicity and race. Indeed, I offer a distinct perspective to the conversation, and Ms. Li's insights as a Chinese American illuminate the complex nature of diversity in our society. This interview was an opportunity to explore the wealth of cultural backgrounds and appreciate the importance of cultural competence in social work.
My choice to interview Ms. Li, who identifies as Chinese American, stemmed from my desire to expand my knowledge and awareness of cultures I have had limited personal exposure. As a social work student, refining cultural competency is fundamental to my future profession.

Accommodating the viewpoints of persons from diverse ethnic experiences is crucial for me to offer practical and compassionate support to a broad group of clients. My incentive for conducting this interview was to get a comprehensive awareness of Chinese ideals, customs, and practices, particularly in the framework of the United States. I believe this information is essential for my future vocation as a social worker, as it will permit me to be a socially sensitive and culturally responsive practitioner. This interview allowed me to access Ms. Li's personal experiences, cultural background, and unique perspectives, ultimately enriching my comprehension of diversity and its profound implications in social work.

Interview Responses
1.
Ms. Li eloquently stated, "Certainly, my family's cultural roots are sufficiently embedded within the tapestry of Chinese heritage. My parents arrived from China, where they were born, while I was born and raised in the United States, which has forged my identity as a Chinese-American. Our cultural heritage is a rich mosaic woven with the threads of Chinese traditions, spanning language, customs, and joyous celebrations."
2.
She further illuminated, "My Chinese cultural heritage profoundly influences my upbringing and values. Notably, my cultural heritage has instilled in me the essential principles, including my unwavering reverence for elders, the fostering of strong familial bonds, as well as a steadfast commitment to education, which have been fundamental characteristics of my life since a tender age. Furthermore, my family actively preserves Chinese customs, enthusiastically participating in valued events such as the Lunar New Year, a vibrant confirmation of our cultural identity.
3.
"Ms. Li: "Our family maintains several cherished Chinese customs and traditions. One of the most significant traditions is giving red envelopes (known as hongbao) during the Lunar New
Year to symbolize good luck and prosperity. Furthermore, we prioritize family gatherings during these cultural holidays and celebrate with traditional Chinese meals."
4.
Ms. Li: "Regrettably, I have encountered racial discrimination occasionally. Sometimes, it is subtle, such as stereotyping or making assumptions about my cultural background. It has been more overt, including racially insensitive comments on other occasions. While it is undoubtedly challenging, I endeavor to educate and raise awareness whenever possible."

During the interview Ms. Li specified, "It has been a challenge to always strike a balance between my American identity as well as my Chinese heritage. Striking this balance to me involves finding harmony between both these parts of my identity."

Ms. Li: "Yes, there are stereotypes associated with Chinese culture and people that I have encountered. Some common stereotypes include the perception that Chinese individuals are overly studious or reserved. These stereotypes can be limiting and fail to represent the diversity within the Chinese community. It is imperative to challenge these misconceptions actively."
