2 Discussion Post As a behavior analyst working in an agency alongside speech pathologists and occupational therapists, my ethical duty is to put the client's well-being first. To ensure successful communication and intervention, all professionals involved in the client's care must collaborate and respect each other. Section 2 of the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts requires behavior analysts to respect the rights and dignity of all people and conduct their professional contacts with honesty, competence, and teamwork (Board, 2014). The speech pathologist and occupational therapist addressing the client by name and criticizing behavioral therapies throughout their sessions is troubling. This inhibits teamwork and indicates a lack of understanding of multidisciplinary client care. First, I would ask the RBT who reported the exchange for further details since I must know the conversation's context, topic, and tone. Review the agency's communication, cooperation, and client confidentiality policies. This will reveal any conversational etiquette violations. I would also meet with the speech pathologist, occupational therapist, and RBT, who overheard the dialogue. This conference would focus on solving the situation and enhancing teamwork. Similarly, I would explain behavior analysis concepts and advantages during the meeting. Emphasizing behavioral therapies' significance in progress and client objectives helps dispel myths and improve attitudes toward behavior analysis. Team members should communicate and listen. All professionals should feel comfortable expressing their concerns and viewpoints to collaborate on client results ( Bowman, 2019 ). I would remind physicians of the client-centered approach and how each discipline helps clients improve. All professions must work together to
3 provide complete and effective treatment. I would work with the speech pathologist, occupational therapist, and others to create an interdisciplinary plan that combines all therapies. This strategy should address the client's requirements and combine behavioral treatments during sessions. After implementing the interdisciplinary strategy, I would track the client's development and assess the partnership. Team meetings would review updates, complaints, and modifications to optimize client service.
