Media Communication
Are we controlled by the media (this includes all forms of media social media, news outlets,
written media, etc.)?
The media has played an essential role in society to a point that we seem to be controlled
by it. Social media and other countless news and media platforms are a part of our life. The
media controls our news intake. Supposed the media presents the wrong information, most
people will be misled. For instance, there is a famous advert on television, social media, and
other platforms that says “RedBull Gives You Wings…” However, everybody knows that
humans cannot get wings. Nonetheless, this type of hoax has misled many people who end up
buying the beverage. This is a form of control that social media has on us. Similarly, the media,
especially social media, have become a place where people receive information that they tend to
believe without doing further research (
Patterson,
2021). For instance, in the video provided, the
Black Lives Matter protests were strengthened by trending hashtags on social media platforms
such as Twitter. This indicates that the media is controlling us as it alters how we feel, act, and
even perceive information.
Is “Big Brother” just an inevitable part of life as we know it? Explain.
I believe that “Big Brother” is an inevitable part of our lives. This is because it places the
participants in situations where they meet strangers, share a house, and live together until one is
eliminated (
Dalton, 2022). However, the audience has is given an opportunity to vote
participants in/out. This is similar to what life is. When you do something interesting, many
people would love to see you more, but when you are difficult to deal with, most people will
want to alienate from you. Therefore, big brother is not only an inevitable part of life, but, it is a

portrayal of individual character and participation of audience in decision making. Similarly, the
audience’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are controlled by the media platform, showing just
how media can control us and our actions.
