Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. Between 1907-1960, eugenics allowed laws requiring certain disabled people to be sterilized. Disabled people were viewed as less than and “idiots” and they did not want them to have the opportunity to procreate. In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. Eugenic laws began to get passed in 1907. This would require some disabled people to become
sterile. Doctors were worried that the disabled would reproduce more disabled people into the world. Disabilities were seen as a negative thing and often referred to the disabled as “idiots or
imbeciles.” Doctors figured if this disability is a part of their genes, requiring individuals to become sterile would put a stop to creating more people with disability instead of trying to find ways to support them.
Social Model

Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. Disabled people were not given opportunities of a good life because of how they were viewed.
In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. The social model deals with the barriers disabled people dealt with when fighting for rights. The disabled were seen as not being valuable to society, without understanding that they are still people who deserve human rights. The disabled people still had regular lives and needs as well. This forced them try to work in the sales field or become beggars. The image above shows how a deaf-mute would communicate their condition and rights as a human being while
selling sewing needles.
Expert/Professional Model
Provide a working link to your example(s). You can include images here, but please size them appropriately and also include the link to where you found them. If you are using artifacts from the resource presentation, please be clear which one(s) you are using. https://everybody.si.edu/media/925
Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. Around the 1860’s many improvements for the wheelchair had taken place. Here is an image of a man in a cart on 4 wheels with hand poles to help him move around. In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. The expert and professional model of disability focused on doctors, engineers and other experts creating new developments to help the disabled. They would notice the deficit and needs of the disabled. They wanted to find ways to correct issues and create a more manageable life. The wheelchair has gone through many changes throughout the decades to help the disabled get around without the support of others. Tragedy/Charity Model

Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. Some people’s disabilities occurred during working in unsafe environments or war. People with disabilities were viewed as less than and found it hard to sustain a life for their family. This caused people with disabilities to become beggars due to the tragic events that occurred. In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. The tragedy/social model focuses on using pity due to their circumstances as a way of living. The disabled were undervalued and underappreciated. With technology and warehouses developing, it created unsafe work environments. Due to these unsafe work environments or equipment being used, injuries were likely to occur causing people to have a hard time finding work. This caused people with disabilities to become beggars to provide for their families. They would create cards with pictures of themselves and a description that explains their story.
The disabled would sell these cards to people for money. Economic Model

Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. Between 1867-1974 poor and disabled people were still being treated unfairly. Around this time, “Ugly Laws” were being created to continue the segregation of the disabled. In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. Disabled and poor people looked to begging to create a life for themselves and their families. People with disabilities were judged harshly and not allowed basic human rights. Ugly laws began in 1867 and targeted the disabled from being seen in the public. If they were caught in public begging, they could be put in an almshouse or jail. This was a tactic to continue to shame the disabled and view them as less than. Religious Model
Provide a working link to your example(s). You can include images here, but please size them appropriately and include the link to where you found them. If you are using artifacts from the resource presentation, please be clear which one(s) you are using. Article: https://academic.oup.com/hsw/article/44/2/75/5248513
Briefly describe your example(s) and the source. From a religious standpoint, a disability was an act of punishment from God.
In at least one paragraph, make an argument and analysis that explains why you chose this example for this model of disability. In the past, the religion had a viewpoint of disability being caused because of something they did. It was also viewed as a way of God punishing a family for sins they have committed. Religion was used as a way to make the disabled viewed as demons that were not meant to be around society. The disabled were not valued and it caused disabled people to be put in cages, abandoned or worse death.

You work in a research organization that is looking for markers of various diseases that can be used as a diagnostic for the disease. It has been reported in the past that high levels of Cu are found in the sweat of people with cystic fibrosis. One of the research projects is focused on looking for high levels of Cu in samples that can be obtained non-invasively such as saliva, sweat, hair, nails, etc.
The lab will analyze large samples for Cu. What instrument would you recommend purchasing to support this work, Atomic absorption spectrophotometer or an inductively coupled plasma atomic spectrophotometer? Explain the basis for your decision.

The Ksp value for calcium sulfate [CaSO4] is 2.40 X 10 and a professor made 1825
mL of a CaSO4(ag) solution but then one of his graduate student accidentally poured
in a 0.125 M solution of calcium phosphate [Cag(PO4)2] solution. You may ignore
the additional volume coming from the Ca3(PO4)2 solution to make the calculation
simpler. Calculate the new sulfate (SO42) ion concentration at equilibrium with this
common ion effect.

3 Decompression sickness (also known as the bends) is a condition that affects divers and others operating under
pressurized conditions. It occurs when gases such as nitrogen (N₂) come out of solution in the blood. This can
lead to symptoms including joint pain, shortness of breath, and paralysis. Severe cases may result in death.
a What type of molecule (ionic, polar covalent, nonpolar covalent) is nitrogen gas?
b The liquid medium of blood is water. What type of compound (ionic, polar covalent, nonpolar covalent) is
water?
c What happens when molecules such as nitrogen gas mix with water? How does this explain the problems we
see with decompression sickness?
