SPE-501 Module 6- Case Study CBM Present Levels of Performance and Strengths: Jordan was assessed using a CBM targeting Passage Reading Fluency. Jordan was given an 8 th grade reading passage and had 1 minute to read as many words as possible correctly. Jordan’s first 3 scores had an average of 121 words read correctly in 1 minute. He can recognize most of the words in a text without having to decode. He can recognize all sight words. Jordan is an active participant when working in whole and small group instruction. Academic Functioning: Jordan has shown an increase in words read correctly per minute each week during progress monitoring. He struggles with decoding words that are multi-syllabic and blends. During the 6 weeks of intervention, he has shown a positive trend of increasing words per minute. It shows that the added intervention is helping, but the last 2 weeks he does show a decline in words read in 1 minute.
Goals and Objectives: Long Term Goal- By January 2024, when given an 8th grade level passage, Jordan will read 15- words per minute with 95% accuracy (5 or less errors). This would put the student at the 53 rd percentile. 1) What is the evidence that the student has made progress? An increase of words read correctly in one minute will show evidence of growth. Every week the student should show an increase of 5 extra words on average read correctly in one minute. Jordan seems to show issues with decoding 2) How does the student compare to typically developing peers? Jordan is performing below his peers at the 15 th percent of his class. Jordan is benefiting by being in a tier 2 intervention program. The tier 2 intervention has shown to improve Jordan’s reading fluency each week during progress monitoring. 3) What do you recommend moving forward? With the dip in the scores for the last 2 weeks, I would suggest that Jordan remain in the tier 2 intervention for another session. He has shown progress over the 6-week course, and I do not want him to fall behind especially with the results of week 5 and week 6 decreasing. Jordan should continue practicing blends, suffixes, and breaking a word into syllables to support decoding difficult vocabulary.
