Clinical Laboratory Techniques 1- Lab
Urinalysis on an Abdominal Urine and Centrifuge
Destinee Mills
Introduction A centrifuge is used to separate materials that have different densities by applying force and rotating balanced units at various speeds. The force and speed required to separate materials depends on the size and viscosity of the specimens. A clinical centrifuge tends to operate at slower speeds and relative centrifuge force (RCF) and accepts a range of heads and cups to accommodate the various array of laboratory specimen’s containers such as serum tubes, bacteria bottles, blood bags, and urine cups/urinalysis tubes. Specifically, the separation of urine by centrifugation is performed so that the liquid within the urine can be separated to reveal any solid components that may be in the sample such as crystals, blood, or microorganisms. The purpose of this lab was to learn how to use a universal tabletop centrifuge and prepare two abnormal urine samples from that can be evaluated and compared to one another.
Materials Universal Centrifuge
Disposable gloves
Clinitest Dipstick
Refractometer
Acetone
Transfer pipettes
Water
Urinometer
Urine sample C
Urine sample B

Procedures 1.
Prepare a clinical centrifuge for the use, centrifuge the urine samples, centrifuge a sample, and separate the specimens. 2.
Perform a routine urinalysis (physical and chemical) test on abnormal urines C & B and record all
results. 3.
Perform Clinitest
4.
Perform Acetest
5.
Perform SSA test
6.
Perform Ictotest
7.
Properly use a automated instrument to analyze urine specimens (Clinitek)
8.
Properly use a refractometer to check the specific gravity of urine. 9.
Record all test results as they obtained from the performed tests.

The graduated cylinders shown here contain equal amounts of the different plant oils. Identical metal spheres were dropped at the same time into each of the tubes, and a brief moment later, the spheres had fallen to the heights indicated in the illustration.
Rank the plant oils in order of increasing viscosity (lowest to highest), and explain your reasoning.

I An adventurous archaeologist cros-
ses between two rock cliffs by
slowly going hand over hand along
a rope stretched between the cliffs.
He stops to rest at the middle of the
rope (Figure 5.43). The rope will

90.0 kg. (a) If the angle 0 is 10.0⁰,
find the tension in the rope. Start with a free-body diagram of the
archaeologist. (b) What is the smallest value the angle 0 can have if
the rope is not to break?

An ostwald viscometer was used to determine the time of flow of syrup at 20°C
Data of water:
Time of flow: 0.23 sec
Density at 20°C: 0.998 g/cm3
Viscosity: 0.0101 poise
Data of Syrup:
Time of flow: 1.42 sec
Density at 20°C: 1.153 g/cm3
1. What is the fluidity of water?
2. What is the Viscosity of syrup?
3. From the computed Viscosity of syrup, what will be its kinematic Viscosity?

How does the measure of the relative viscosity provide a measure of the transesterification process?
Select one:
The produced biodiesel has a much higher viscosity than the starting soybean oil.
The produced glycerol binds with the produced FAMES, creating more viscous products.
O As relative viscosity decreases, this indicates that the reaction is progressing as desired.
The produced biodiesel has a much lower viscosity than the starting soybean oil.
