IT 510 Module Two Milestone One Southern New Hampshire University IT-510-Q3520 Advanced Info Technology 24TW3 3/10/2024 Milestone One: Introduction BACKGROUND Global Hotels is a multinational hotel chain that utilizes online applications and resources to control reservations and provide information to their customers. This suite of online reservation capabilities was developed by the company and the information that is provided to the customers is readily available via links from the company’s website linking to vital travel industry sites for further reservations capabilities. The company is currently attempting to acquire regional chains to further its capabilities and more appropriately meet the needs of its consumers. Global Hotels seeks solutions to data and system integration when acquiring these chains. It is important to note that because the current in-house online capabilities allow its employees to learn, understand, and utilize applications that are troubleshooted and managed by the company and shifts or changes have to be relearned from both a usage and customer service standpoint. PROBLEM STATEMENT Recently, Global Hotels has acquired a smaller chain of motels located in western Canada called Momma’s. This chain currently utilizes a vertical reservations package that is suitable for
small-to-medium-sized businesses, which is the target for this chain. The company also utilizes basic and generic accounting and finances packages. The problem is whether this acquisition should take advantage of the already established resources or should Global Hotels convert the regional chain to the multinational information systems’ processes. This problem proposes that the adjustment minimizes impact on the currently established customer base but also provides a superior set of resources and expands the potential customer base. Would an infrastructure update cripple the established relationships or provide opportunity for growth? Finally, how would the update to infrastructure be beneficial to Global Hotels to a degree worth the investment? AUDIENCE The audience for this systems proposal is the stakeholders of Global Hotels. As the primary decision-makers, this proposal will provide them with key information to make an educated, informed decision. To effectively communicate this information, pros and cons of each decision will be broken down, highlighted, and compared to each other to understand how impactful each decision is to the company. Finally, providing a detailed timeline and cost analysis of the upgrade to the systems of Momma’s will allow the stakeholders to understand the impact on the company financially.
