BizCafe Group Decision Log BA 102 Questions: 1. How important is employee training for a business like your cafe? Employee training for a business in the food/ beverage industry is crucial because we value our employees and working environment. With a trained group of café employees, not only we encourage their loyalty, increase their performance but also support a healthy working environment. Invest in your employees and your café by training your staff. When our employees are well trained, we are able to be successful in the long term. 2. Discuss the pros and cons of a single training session vs. an ongoing program. Pros for a single training is that it will be done in the present and most likely faster. It would also cost less for the company because the cost is 50 dollars per employee that is getting trained. The cons of this is that the training may not be as good as the ongoing program. Also, the company would have to pay for a single training session for every employee they hire. This option is better in the short term and if you do not plan on hiring future employees. Pros for the ongoing program is that you would have better accurate training and this program would be able to train current and future employees. The con of this option is that the cost is $1200 per year. This cost would impact the company in the present time but would be a benefit in the future if they hire more employees. This option would be best for the long run. 3. Why is the training program a “prepaid” expense? The training program is a prepaid expense because we won't be able to gain all the benefits right away since it is a long term investment. It also takes time for the employee to finish the training program. This time elapsed meaning that the asset applied to the business is progressively compared to an immediate benefit. We also need to consider the fact that the store will keep demanding employees in the future, we will keep replaying this expense on the program in the future. Therefore, the program is not a one time payment, and we will be able to utilize this benefit in the long term. 4. How could you make on-the-job training work? There are several benefits of on- the- job training. When learning on the job, employees receive firsthand experience performing tasks related to their role from a coworker or supervisor. It is a hand-on process that allows employees to get used to performing tasks

If our store decides on pursuing on- the- job training, we need to adopt a top down approach. For example, we can first have the store owner make a set of rules and train the store managers to keep the training structure consistent and clear. We then can nave the store managers to train the employees in the same process. Throughout the training sessions, store managers should make sure to check in frequently and step in to provide assistance as needed. We should also consider giving a raise to store managers who are responsible for the training when we hire new employees. 5. What choice did your group make? Why? We decided to go with the ongoing training. The reason why we did this was because we decided it would be better to invest in the training because it will benefit us in the long run. Even though it is the more expensive option, we believe that it will save us more in the future. On a scale of 1-10, rate the collaboration between your group members for this round, and explain your reasoning. 1 = the lowest, 10 = the highest 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 We rated ourselves an 8 because there were only 2 people in our group for today's class. Only having two people limits the flow of ideas and decisions. However, the people that were here worked very well together talking about the decisions and walking through what was the most reasonable decision to make that would give us the most profit.
