UNV-103 Topic 7 Ensuring Future Success Reflection
During the past few weeks, you have had the opportunity to develop a plan for success as a student here at GCU and beyond graduation. Analyze your academic, spiritual, and career goals from the Topic 4 Purpose Plan and complete the following prompts directly on this document—
the boxes will expand as needed.
Part 1: Academic and Spiritual Goals
Based on your analysis, in 75-100 words total, describe what three action steps you will need to take in order to achieve your academic
goals.
1.
I need to prioritize the completion of my assignments by their set due date. I tend to procrastinate some, and I need to be better about working throughout the week to achieve on-time assignments.
2.
Build successful relationships with my professors so that I will not have any fear when I need help or anything else from them.
3.
Set aside time throughout my week to review my planner and my class notes so that I will not miss any assignments or information for my classes that will aid in me being successful.
Based on your analysis, in 75-100 words total, describe what three action steps you will need to take in order to achieve your spiritual
goals.
1.
I want to start or end each day in the word of God. I want to read my bible more often and have no distractions while doing so. I want the daily encouragement and to be more knowledgeable about the Bible as well.
2.
I want to find a small group or bible study to encourage me to pursue my faith more and to talk to others about it so that I will become more understanding and confident in
my faith.
3.
I would love to attend church and chapel on a weekly basis as it provides a fresh start to my week by seeking to deepen my relationship with Christ.
How well are you working towards achieving your academic and spiritual goals? Explain. What changes might you make? (50-100 words total)
1. Academic Goals – I am doing better than I was in high school, but I know that most of the time I have been prioritizing friendships and adventures over my academics. Although sometimes its great to take those adventures and risks, I do need to be better about getting all of my work in on time.
2. Spiritual Goals – For a while I was doing a devotional at least a couple rimes a week, but that has since regressed and I would love to make it a daily habit to do a devotional. I have been attending church and chapel though and I feel very filled when I do attend those, and feel
closer to God.
Describe HOW you will know you are achieving your academic and spiritual goals. (50-100 words total)
1. Academic Goals – I will be achieving high grades as I know I am capable if I just stop procrastinating my assignments so much. I will also know I have met this goal when I am able to balance school and an internship/job.
2. Spiritual Goals – I will be able to go to God first when in times of trial, and even times of joy and happiness. I will be more open and understanding about my faith, and sharing the joy and healing that it brings into my life.
Part 2: College Career Launch and Your Career Goals
The college career launch is an opportunity for new students to learn more about internship and career options that lie ahead. Visit the Student Success Center to learn more about careers in your field of study. https://www.gcumedia.com/lms-resources/student-success-center/v3.1/#/tools/new-
student/290/766/2615
After reviewing the College Career Launch resources for your major in the Student Success Center, describe in 75-100 words, what three action steps you will need to take in order to achieve your career goals.
1.
I will first find a mentor who will lead me through my academic journey at GCU and provide me with an outlet to go to when I am in need.
2.
I will also reach out to faculty members who can aid in my academic success and be a
resource for connections.
3.
I will be active in clubs that will provide me with resources to get ahead in my career.
How well are you working towards achieving your career goals? Explain. What changes might you make? (50-100 words total)
I became a member of the Sports business and entertainment club which will provide me with resources, connections, relationships, and career/internship opportunities for me in a sports or concert setting. I am making an effort to put myself out there so that I may be provided with connections that will help me get ahead in my career. I may switch from wanting to do sports broadcasting to doing either concert photography or concert production & planning.
Describe HOW you will know you are achieving your career goals. (50-100 words total)
I will know that I am achieving my career goals when I am provided with internships and opportunities to grow in my field and build experience. If I do sports journalism/broadcasting, I will be shadowing Erin Andrews or have a job/internship with a news/media outlet. If I go into concert production, I will be working with smaller artists and venues.
Part 3: Your Career Connections Profile
Career Connections is one of the primary systems you will use during your time at Grand Canyon University to help you navigate and carry out your academic, career, and spiritual success plans. One of the key features of the system is to have a published profile, which allows you to interact with and be found by employers seeking students like you!
To complete this assignment, navigate to your Career Connections account via the widget you added to your student portal for the Topic 4 assignment.
Watch this video for instructions on how to publish your profile: https://youtu.be/yLblus8jM8U
then, publish your profile. Take a screenshot of your published profile and provide it below:
