2 Journal Article Analysis 1 Definition Conflict management is an approach to ensure that disagreements and disputes are effectively identified and solved, where negative attributes of the conflict are minimized and avoided and productive results are highly targeted. According to Broukhim et al. (2019), conflict management is a process to use the available professional and career approaches to optimally handle conflicts. The article to be analyzed is referenced below. Broukhim, M., Yuen, F., McDermott, H., Miller, K., Merrill, L., Kennedy, R., & Wilkes, M. (2019). Interprofessional conflict and conflict management in an educational setting. Medical teacher , 41 (4), 408-416. Summary The article “Interprofessional conflict and conflict management in an educational setting” captures how interprofessional conflicts in a hospital can be extensively managed to ensure that a productive workplace environment is developed. The article is authored by Michael Broukhim, Francis Yuen, Haley McDermott, Keri Miller, Leslie Merrill, Robin Kennedy and Michael Wilkes. These authors are scholars within universities in California working under healthcare related departments. The professional background of the authors in that they work in universities indicates the need to embrace and analyze the research findings captured in the article. Broukhim et al. (2019) uses an online questionnaire survey to assess the understanding of three groups of health science students on how to implement interprofessional conflict management. The article provides information that diverse ways exist in handling conflicts, where hierarchy and power issues are the major causes of conflict in healthcare provision. In fact Broukhim et al. (2019)
3 indicates that improving interprofessional curriculum would greatly help in optimizing conflict management in healthcare scenarios, thus leading to improved quality of healthcare services. Analysis Conflict management is an important concept that is highly needed in every workplace environment. In fact, it is a concept that should be integrated into every workplace as illustrated by Broukhim et al. (2019), where a healthcare provision environment would greatly benefit from the use of effective conflict management practices. There are a wide range of conflict management approaches that are influenced by the specific workplace environment features. Broukhim et al. (2019) has illustratively shown how to apply interprofessional conflict management. Embracing an interprofessional aspect in conflict management is crucial towards ensuring that optimal management of a disagreement at the workplace is managed by a variety of stakeholders. An element of cohesiveness and commitment at the workplace will be developed from the interprofessional perspective in managing conflicts since all the stakeholders engaged in conflict management will seek to ensure that the overall workplace environment is improved (Winardi et al., 2022). In fact, creating a continuous assessment of the workplace environment to assess how best to implement interprofessional conflict management is an important aspect towards creating effective conflict resolution processes. Broukhim et al. (2019) illustrates how optimized conflict management can embrace surveys at the workplace to determine what factors cause conflicts and the best way to manage the conflicts. An element of communication is seen to influence the effectiveness of conflict management where even the surveys will use communication to create effective conflict management aspects. Conflicts in any workplace environment is caused by a wide range of factors. Assessing the causes is a major step towards creating a successful and efficient conflict management

4 process. Broukhim et al. (2019) illustrates how power issues and hierarchy issues have caused conflicts, which indicates that the working structure of any organization can easily trigger conflicts. However, investing on employees and other stakeholders’ mindset and understanding on every stakeholder’s role in the company acts as an effective basis to create sustainable conflict management (Marchetti & Tocci, 2020). Therefore, conflict management needs to take an in- depth approach in assessing causes of the conflict to help in generating a more successful approach to manage the conflict.
