1 Man Bui Professor Kristina Hesch Grover Grand Canyon University ELM – 250 June 8, 2023 Classroom Arrangements and Cooperative Learning One of the class layouts that I like to work with is the U-shaped layout. One of the major aspects of the classroom is the physical design of the classroom (Gremmen et al., 2016). This
2 consideration in the physical orientation made me choose a U-shaped design because it improves classroom management and promotes interaction. For students, the desk is U- shaped, so they can view each other when one is asking a question or explaining something easily. Furthermore, this orientation promotes group discussion. While for me as a teacher, I can view all students, and the student can view me easily; hence communication and interaction between me and the student can be easy. One of the technology tools in class is the smartboard located in the front of the class, where each student is facing. This location is appropriate since students can easily navigate the path between the two U-shaped desk arrangements. Furthermore, the path between the two U shapes of the furniture allows the teacher to access all students easily, and when the teacher stands at the front of the class, they can see all the students. This gives the teacher the advantage of viewing all the students in the same way it gives all the students the ability to view the teacher. Apart from allowing movement and flow of students and teacher easily, this orientation has enough space in the font, which can be used to incorporate different teaching methods. For instance, the font space allows the teacher to apply teaching through games as students, and the teacher can play in that space as they learn. Furthermore, the font space allows the front desk, which is significant for the teacher to use as a stand for laptops and other technology devices the teacher wants to use in class.
