World Leader Letter Assignment 1 Week 11: World Leader Letter Assignment Kathyn Stadler ANT300-04 Cultural Anthropology Professor Celeste Henrickson March 20, 2022
World Leader Letter Assignment 2 Kathryn Stadler Nightingale College 175 S Main St Suite 400 Salt Lake City, UT 84111, USA March 20, 2022 Dear President Joseph Biden, Today’s political, economic, and cultural environment has created an international crisis that has presented multiple blockades to prohibit today’s world leaders from agreeing on solutions to global environmental challenges. Several factors are getting in the way and stopping leaders, such as yourself, for agreeing on solutions to global environmental challenges. Countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Saudi Arabia all represent important contributors to future solutions. The United States must be a leader when it comes to solving global environmental problems. Recent policies have instead chosen to increase greenhouse gas emissions by weakening regulations from the oil and gas industry. The UK continues to be weak on the international stage by ignoring the Paris accords and infostructure decisions. France emitted 18 million tons of CO2 a year, well above expected targets. Canada’s oil industry contributes more greenhouse gas than crude oil production. Finally, Saudi Arabia has chosen money over environmental health once again by slowing down the attempt to lower greenhouse gas because
World Leader Letter Assignment 3 their number one industry is simply too profitable. We have to start leading and holding our global partners accountable for our future. From an Anthropological perspective, important and key examples of a political factor would include the Tax Policy, Labor Laws and the Environmental Laws that can affect the general welfare of a multitude of nations around the globe (Brown, et al., 2020). These policies and laws and a trickle-down effect on the global economy as well. Based on today’s current available knowledge, there are several solutions to these problems. First, raise the carbon tax for industries that produce the most CO2 emissions. Make the environmental laws matter with harsher penalties for companies who disregard the law. Make changes at home with our own government by converting government owned operations to carbon free energy. Finally, continue to encourage the use of alternative energy with financial incentive and tax breaks. Economically, most nations are completely dependent on electricity and energy plants. These solutions aren’t as obvious as so much of the global economy relies on the gas and oil industry or manufacturing and industrial plants. Some domestic solutions could include encouraging bicycle use thru expanded bike lanes in major cities. Another solution could be continuing to fund important research to reduce or eliminate pollution within these industries. Finally, invest in clean agriculture and innovation to continue to produce economic growth and increased food sources without negatively impacting the environment. As far as cultural factors are concerned, I believe this could be our greatest challenge. Most anthropologists define culture as the shared set of values, ideas, concepts, and rules of behavior that allow a social group to function and perpetuate itself. To that extent, it has already embodied cultural attachment in some manor to most communities around the planet. So how do

World Leader Letter Assignment 4 we find solutions for something so engrained in who we are? First, we must promote education on the dangers and reality of the environmental crisis we are in. Second, everybody’s culture has a beauty and a beast to it. We must continue to promote each cultures beauty while understanding that if we don’t tame the beast within the cultural framework of our societies, our future generations may not be able to enjoy it. Finally, we must start to embrace prepare people for gradual change. We must be able to adapt and change to make a difference for our generation and every generation to follow. So, in conclusion, Mr. President, we must do better. The political, economic, and cultural impact on the environment will continue to create roadblocks to progress but we have a responsibility to lead both by example and through our policies. I trust that with the proper incentives, anything can get done and if we wait too long, it is only going to be harder, if not impossible, to recover and create a healthy environment for future generations. Sincerely, Kathryn Stadler
