Report
ATH 205 Journal 3-1 Historical Israel To keep from destructing any possible artifacts that are in the area, I suggest that we halt construction and conduct an archaeological survey of the surrounding area. An archaeological survey will assess the area and allow us to understand better where the mosaic came from, and who it belongs to. We can cross-date with other found artifacts to compare when the mosaics were made. Many different cultural groups have occupied the Israeli Coastal Plain through the years. When analyzing the mosaic, we can see if certain markings can help identify which cultural group they belong to. Mosaics are usually what is left behind, so finding other ancient artifacts would be rare because looters have most likely raided the area a long time ago. Roman mosaics are usually Egyptian or Greek-influenced and can tell mythological stories or show portraits of people. These mosaics were also used as decorations for Roman vaults, pools, fountains, columns, and baths (Cartwright, 2019). We should obtain a permit before we proceed with anything else, and once we can safely remove the mosaics by archaeological excavation it will be safe to continue construction. To do this safely we would also need a team or staff of anthropologists, which would consist of a Site supervisor, recording experts, laboratory staff, cultural research management staff, and foremen (Fagan & Durrani, 2020). With a solid team, the excavation can go fast and smoothly, so that the project site can be up and running faster. Resources Cartwright, M. (2019, September 2). Mosaic .
