Explanation of Solution
Features which describe that a system is in equilibrium are as follows:
(1) The rates of forward and reverse reactions are equal when the system is in equilibrium.
(2) At equilibrium, all the reactants and products are present.
(3) A catalyst doesn’t impact the position of the equilibrium.
(4) The reactants and products’ concentrations become constant values and these are known as equilibrium concentrations.
Thus, two statements which are always true for a system at equilibrium will be:
- The rate of formation of product is equal to the rate of disintegration of reactant at equilibrium.
- If system is changed at equilibrium either by increasing or decreasing pressure, amount and temperature, the shift in equilibrium takes place to balance that change.
