Question
Chapter SRP, Problem 4P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The reagents needed to synthesis of each of the given compounds using benzoic acid as a starting material is to be provided.
Concept introduction:
The reactions involving carboxylic acids and their derivatives are primarily nucleophilic addition–elimination reaction at their acyl (carbonyl) carbon atoms. This occurs due to the presence of a better leaving group at the acyl carbon than the product.
Condensation of carboxylic acids with alcohols forms esters. The reaction of acyl chlorides with alcohols is yet another method of ester synthesis.
Nucleophilic addition–elimination reaction of acyl chlorides by ammonia gives amides which can be converted to esters.

In the first step, G undergoes a Wittig reaction, leading to the formation of an alkene, H.
