To determine the steps required to an equation has a constant of variation, with example.

Explanation of Solution

Given:

The steps required to an equation has a constant of variation, with example.

To determine the constant of variation,

1. taking the ratio of $y$ and $x$ , if the ratio is constant for all values of $y$ and $x$ then the ratio is the constant of variation and it is called as direct variation.

2. if above step fails, then multiply $y$ and $x$ , if the multiplication factor is constant for all values of $y$ and $x$ then the factor is the constant of variation and it is called as indirect variation.

Example: $y=0.95x=>\frac{y}{x}=0.95$ has a constant variation of $0.95$

In below case,

  $y=x^2+2$ it has no constant of variation. Because $\frac{y}{x}$ is not constant.
