Concept introduction: One of the major types of membrane lipids is sphingoglycolipids. The structure of sphingoglycolipids involves sphingosine, fatty acid residue and a monosaccharide or oligosaccharide. The fatty acid is attached to the sphingosine through amide linkage and the monosaccharide or oligosaccharide is bonded to sphingosine through glycosidic linkage.
