Concept explainers
Random walks. Using a piece of graph paper, a penny, and a dime, embark on a random walk on the grid. Flip both coins. If the penny lands heads up, you move one unit to the right; if it lands tails up, you move one unit to the left. If the dime is heads, you move one unit up, and if it is tails, you move one unit down. Mark your trail on the graph paper as you make 50 flips of the coins.

- How do you decide which pattern to use?arrow_forwardBroadway The ordered pairs below give the starting year and gross ticket sales S (in millions of dollars) for each Broadway season in New York City from 1997 through 2014. 1997,558 2003,771 2009,1020 1998,588 2004,769 2010,1081 1999,603 2005,862 2011,1139 2000,666 2006,939 2012,1139 2001,643 2007,938 2013,1269 2002,721 2008,943 2014,1365 (a) Use a graphing utility to create a scatter plot of the data. Let t=7 represent 1997. (b) Use the regression feature of the graphing utility to find the equation of the least squares regression line that fits the data. (c) Use the graphing utility to graph the scatter plot you created in part (a) and the model you found in part (b) in the same viewing window. How closely does the model represent the data? (d) Use the model to predict the gross ticket sales during the season starting in 2021. (e) Interpret the meaning of the slope of the linear model in the context of the problem.arrow_forwardAston is making a wooden picture frame in the shape of a parallelogram. - II. Direction: Read and solve the problem on a sheet of paper. A pile of blocks has 40 blocks in the bottom row, 36 blocks in the second row, 32 blocks on the third row and so on until there are only 4 blocks on the top row. How many blocks are there in the 7th row? How many blocks are there in all?arrow_forwardYou live in Grid-Town on the corner of 2nd and 4th, and work in a building on the corner of 16th and from home to work and then back home, but by a different 12th. How many routes are there which take you route?arrow_forwardSolve using R calculator. Show all work.arrow_forward
- Wilson wants to visit Nicholas. Roads are shown as lines on the grid. Only north and east travel directions can be used. How many different paths can Wilson take to get to Nicholas?arrow_forwardPlease do not give solution in image formate thanku. A friend who lives in Los Angeles makes frequent consulting trips to Washington, D.C.; 60% of the time she travels on airline #1, 20% of the time on airline #2, and the remaining 20% of the time on airline #3. For airline #1, flights are late into D.C. 40% of the time and late into L.A. 10% of the time. For airline #2, these percentages are 30% and 25%, whereas for airline #3 the percentages are 20% and 10%. If we learn that on a particular trip she arrived late at exactly one of the two destinations, what are the posterior probabilities of having flown on airlines #1, #2, and #3? Assume that the chance of a late arrival in L.A. is unaffected by what happens on the flight to D.C.arrow_forwardIn case of LSD, each row and each column should be a complet Column. Block. Row.
