a. The total pay $P$ for 3 hours if you are paid $\$30$ for the first hour and $\$d$ more than the preceding hour for each hour thereafter

b. Jimmy’s total pay $P$ for 4 hours if the first year his salary was hour $\$d$ and then each year thereafter his salary is twice as much as in the preceding year
