The sum of the two monomial are always be a monomial and in case of addition the coefficient of the sum of like monomials is the sum of the coefficient and a monomial has only one term.

Example for monomial as follows:

  $3x^2+8x^2=11x^2$ Combine like terms.

The polynomial is a monomial or a sum monomials or in case addition of the polynomial, first like terms and add its coefficient and a polynomial can have more than one term.

Example for polynomial as follows:

  $\begin{array}{c}\left(3x^2+8x+5\right)+\left(8x^2+4x+9\right)=\left(3x^2+8x^2\right)+\left(8x+4x\right)+\left(5+9\right)\\ =11x^2+12x+14\end{array}$
