A clog is formed when water insoluble materials are produced which can’t be easily washed out. In this case drain cleaners are useful to remove the clog. For example when there is formation of CaCO3 which is insoluble in water then clog can be formed in drain. Now to remove this dilute solution of hydrochloric acid might be added to produce water soluble CaCl2. Thus it can be said that drain cleaners work by chemical equation.
